The Arrows Store opened to the public for the first time on Friday, February 5. Students from the work studies class sold t-shirts, hoodies, and many other Tecumseh logo items, as well as handmade items put together in the classroom.
The work studies class set up the store so that “students could learn job skills and how to interact with the community” according to Chris Johnston, supervisor of the work studies class. Students were helping customers with items, running the cash register and keeping track of inventory.
The Arrows Store is usually confined to a hallway during lunch hours, selling school supplies & athletic tickets. Johnson said that Assistant Superintendent Paula Crew shared a picture of the store and someone asked “is that open to the public?”
“We had never thought of that before” explains Johnson. She then says that the idea was an easy sell to Athletic Director Craig Eirer and the Tecumseh Athletic Boosters, who let the students sell the clothing.
“The Arrow Store has been a wonderful and exciting learning opportunity for my students and we are excited to open it to the community,” said Laura Wright, teacher of the work studies class. “Not only are they getting practice at these important social and employment skills, they are providing a service to the school and community and supporting school spirit.”
Clark County Sheriff’s Deputies Beller and Cox stopped by the Arrows Store as part of an ongoing “community policing” effort. The deputies each purchased a shirt for a work studies student, and signed them with motivational messages.
The Arrows Store will be open to Tecumseh students and staff every Friday during lunch hours. “We hope to open it up to the public again” said Johnson.
