Tecumseh JV FB 2Saturday mornings have been very successful this season for the Tecumseh football program. While the varsity team was battling to finish .500 on the season, the Junior Varsity football team finished their season last week with a 16-6 victory over league rival Tippecanoe, and finishes the season unbeaten at 7-0.

“We had a freshman scheduled planned, but we have been short on numbers, so we couldn’t play most of those games, so the freshman played most of the JV season,” said Tecumseh varsity head coach Chris Cory. “The guys came out strong in their opener against Fairborn, then had our toughest game of the season when we beat Bellbrook by less than a touchdown.”

From there, the Arrows defense raised their game and didn’t allow more than 14 points in a game all season.

“We did a really good job holding them down in scoring our defense played well,” Cory said.

“Our defense was very aggressive and at times, I would look at it and we would have five or six freshman out there, including 3-4 at linebacker and 2-3 in the secondary. The young kids are great tacklers and have a great nose for the ball.”

“We played four different quarterbacks at some points during the season,” he added. “We had a lot of talent to go around. We had some key sophomores on the front lines able to make holes for the kids who ran well and did a good job breaking tackles.”

This group of kids, along with an eighth grade team who won the CBC title, provides a glimpse at what may be ahead on Friday night’s at Tecumseh.

“The one good thing about these kids, they rooted for each other and were just excited to play on Saturdays,” Cory said. “Some kids over the years take it as a negative to play on a Saturday, not these kids. They just want to go out there and play football.”

“They are so coachable. As the season went on, they were so fun to coach. The last 3-4 games, every coach on the staff went to the JV games to get to work with the kids.”

Not only was this groups record perfect on the season, they have the attitude according to Cory to being the excellence back to Tecumseh football in the near future.

“They play hard, they like football and are coachable,” Cory added. “They want to play Tecumseh football and be that next group. Our varsity kids had to fight through a lot this year, and aren’t happy how the season went. We will get back to being Tecumseh.”
