Starting February 3, 2016, AARP will once again provide free tax assistance for senior citizens at the New Carlisle Public Library. Seniors do not have to be AARP members to receive the service. AARP will be at the library from 12:30 p.m. through 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday until April 13, 2016. Pre-registration is required. To sign up for a one-hour session, interested participants can register at the circulation desk or call 845-3601 during regular business hours.

Furthermore, throughout February readers who are interested in adding some variety to their reading selection can participate in Blind Date with a Book. For the second year, adult readers are invited to choose as many wrapped books as they would like to read from the available selection. After they are checked out, they can open the packages and see what kind of date they are going to have! A mystery, romance, non-fiction or some other genre could be waiting. You never know when you go on a blind date!

Other activities for the month include on February 3,, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Makeover of Your Medicine Cabinet. Julia and Lindsey from doTerra will conduct a session on using essential oils on a daily basis. They will teach safe, less expensive and more effective forms of healthcare. They will also suggest products to keep in stock in the medicine cabinet to ensure your health.

On February 6, 2016, Tom Hughes will be available from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to perform Ham Radio Testing and to share information on the hobby.

On February 10, 2016 from 12:00 p.m.to 1:00 p.m., Beth Staas and Bev Rice will conduct the monthly Diabetes Group to provide support to individuals suffering from the disorder, and to discover ways to positively cope with the disease.

On February 11, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Bill Berry will present The Sad Story of Albert Frantz and Bessie Little during the monthly local history meeting. The intriguing story involves love, murder and mystery in Dayton and New Carlisle.

On February 12, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., a Euchre Group is forming. If you like to play cards, the group plan to meet on the second and fourth Fridays of the month to enjoy some good, clean card games. All are invited to join.

Ongoing activities include the Quilting Group that meets every second and fourth Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. And, the Writers Group that meets every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the genealogy room.
