National Library week is April 10 through April 16, 2016. The event sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) is celebrated every April. The theme for this year’s event is “Libraries Transform.” It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

The New Carlisle Public Library is participating this year. If you aren’t already a patron, it is a great time to come to the library, apply for a card and find out about all the transforming programs the library has to offer. To apply for a library card all you need to do is provide a photo id with your current address and to fill out a short application. In less than five minutes, you can then take advantage of all the library has to offer at no charge.

In honor of the library’s many patrons, the New Carlisle Public Library plans to offer some free giveaways.

In addition, to encourage patrons to clear their accounts, the library will feature Double Dollar Days all week. If you have overdue fines, the library will match and waive whatever amount you pay on your account. For example, if you owe $10 and you pay $5 toward your fine, the library will waive the remaining $5. The program applies to overdue fines only. It does not apply toward fees owed for lost or damaged materials.

The Friends of the Library have also stepped up and are offering their Friends of the Library Canvass Bag that normally sells for $8.50 for the low price of $5. You can fill the bag with any combination of five items from the Friends sale items including any combination of DVDs, Books, and CDs.
