Families who have rescued or adopted pets are invited to celebrate on Saturday, May 21 with The Humane Society Serving Clark County at Snyder Park from 11 – 3 during one of the biggest birthday bashes this community has ever seen.

Shelter Coordinator Krissi Hawke explained that the idea for the party came along because dogs who are adopted from a shelter or rescue organization do not have a recorded birthday. Like other members of your family, you want to celebrate the furry little guys and gals too.

Volunteers have been working since early this year to plan the event that will feature something for all members of the family.

Starting at 9:30 am the 5K Fun Run / Walk for dogs and their owners will start at the Snyder Park Clubhouse located near Central Bark on the grassy Cross County Route. Runners will begin their journey around the park first followed by walkers at 10 am. The cost for the event is just $25 and includes a t-shirt with advanced registration. Onsite registration is also available but will not include a shirt. The participation fee will also include the onsite activities throughout the day.

Beginning at 11am families can participate in other activities located in and around the clubhouse. For just a $10 donation, adults can come onto the grounds and enjoy shopping at vendors offering items for every member of the family. You can also enjoy lunch by stopping by one of the food trucks located on the celebration grounds.

Children ages 12 and under are free and can participate in games, arts and crafts, a story time with dogs and receive a “goodie bag” filled with party favors while supplies last.

Everyone will be treated to a birthday cupcake and special “pupcakes” are being made for the dogs who join the party. A special goodie bag just for Fido is also planned for the event.

What would a party be without presents? Guests are encouraged to bring along a gift for the shelter pets waiting for their forever home. We will be taking donations of dry cat or dog food, soft dog treats for the training program and clay kitty liter.

Free demonstrations will also be part of the party fun. Dogs and their owners will also be able to participate in a trick class sponsored by K-9 College.

The fun doesn’t stop there either. At 1 pm, local pet owners will be participating in a Rescues Got Talent contest featuring 20 fun loving animals who will be performing on our stage. Celebrity judge for the event will be Natalie Jovonovich from WHIO Channel 7. Natalie will be joined by Clark County Auditor John Federer and one surprise judge.
