Tecumseh BOE 0223 001

After lengthy public discussion about the presence of sex offenders and bullying in the school district, members of the Tecumseh Local School District’s Board of Education (BOE) addressed additional topics at the BOE meeting held Feb. 23 in Tecumseh High School’s auditorium.
An announcement was made that Tecumseh High School students in the Springfield Clark Career Technology Center’s (SCCTC) computer assisted drafting (CADD) program will be heading to state competition on March 17. The senior SCCTC students are part of “Project Helping Hand,” a program in which CADD students have used a 3-D printer to make prosthetic hands for local students
Financial and materials concerns surrounding roof maintenance on the transportation building were discussed. Paula Crew presented two quotes for labor and materials she received prior to the meeting. Several community members suggested quotes be solicited from local vendors as well. One gentleman with roofing experience expressed concern about the quality of the materials for which the BOE was quoted. Crew offered to get more information and the topic was tabled until next meeting.
The BOE adopted a resolution proclaiming Tecumseh Local Schools will join schools throughout the United States in designating March as Music in Our Schools Month as “...an opportunity to support the purposes and practices of music education and encourage teachers, parents, students, and local citizens to participate” in supporting music programs. An announcement was also made that Tecumseh High School’s musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, will take place March 18-20 and tickets can be purchased at the school and from cast members.
Tecumseh High School Principal, Ivan Gehret, submitted Tecumseh High School’s 2016 graduation list to BOE members for approval and BOE member, Peter Scarff recognized students who recently won awards from Rotary International.
The BOE approved a resolution to accept a settlement from Reiter Dairy, LLC for the overpayment of dairy products the school purchased from the company. The BOE also approved an agreement to accept consulting services with Elaine Estes from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017.
A long list of personnel changes and additions were approved during the BOE meeting.
Cathy Pounds will retire March 31 and both Tiffani MCabe and Shauna Mccoy took new positions within the district’s Child Nutrition program.
Melissa Donaldson, Megan Reardon, and Tod Sullivan were approved as substitutes on an as-needed basis. Final approval was given to Susan DeLong to transfer from the Central Office Secretary to Technician in the Transportation Dept.
Many athletic coaching and volunteer positions were approved as well.
Steve Moran, Kyle Lusk, and Roger Culbertson will be working with the Baseball program. Christi Leggett and William Gruber were approved for the Softball program. Sean Bragg, Mike Crago, and Bob Foland will be working in the Tennis program.
Mark Holbrook, Dan Vaughn, Scott Pritt, Anthony Watson, Kolby Watson, and Keenan Freeman will work within the High School Track program; and approval was given for Jessica Bozarth, Judy Williams, and Leslie Budding to work in the Middle School Track program.
Tecumseh BOE meetings take place the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00 in the Arrow Conference Center in Tecumseh High School. For more information and minutes of BOE meetings can be found at http://www.tecumseh.k12.oh.us/.
