Tecumseh LogoTecumseh Middle School Principal Brian Dixon has sent a letter to parents in the district regarding the recent threats made at the middle school.  That letter is taking longer than expected to be delivered according to the district's "Remind Me" app.

The letter reads as follows:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At Tecumseh Middle School, providing a safe and secure learning environment is our highest priority. As you know, we have taken precautionary measures several times in the last three weeks due to five unsubstantiated threats written in the girls’ restroom.

Working closely with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, we have thoroughly investigated each incident to determine that there was no risk to our school environment and the threats were not valid. Because of our commitment to student safety, we take any and all threats to security seriously and err on the side of caution by following our comprehensive district safety plan and the advice of local law enforcement.

In an effort to preserve our safe educational environment and make the most of the valuable instructional time we have with our students, we have new restroom procedures in place to help limit further threats. Students will still have the opportunity to use the restroom when needed but this will be limited to only during class time. Students will sign out with their teacher to use the restroom. Restrooms will be checked before and after each student usage.

Two separate arrests have been made by the Clark County Sheriff Department in these incidents. Students have also received consequences through the student code of conduct. As a district, we ask that you please have conversations with your children about the severity of making threats. These threats are not funny. If your child has first-hand knowledge of a threat, please encourage them to come forward to talk with a staff member about these threats. If they see something or hear something, please remind them to say something.

You and your student are an important part of our school community and vital to ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.

Safety is our highest priority at Tecumseh Local Schools and Tecumseh Middle School will continue to take all necessary steps to provide a safe, harmonious and caring environment for all students.

Sincerely,

Brian C. Dixon

Principal

Tecumseh Middle School
