TMS threat 1

A 12 year old 7th grade student at Tecumseh Middle School is being praised by Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly for “doing the right thing.”

According to Sheriff Kelly, the young student noticed a threat written on the bathroom walls in the girls restroom and immediately notified school officials. “This young lady stepped out of her element and did the right thing. Because of her actions, we were able to make an arrest today.”

The arrestee is another 12 year old Tecumseh Middle School girl. She is being charged with inducing panic, aggravated menacing and two counts of criminal mischief after allegedly writing threats on the girls restroom walls on two separate occasions.

The first threat was discovered on February 22, and warned of a shooting at the school on the same day. As a result of this threat, the school was locked down. Another threat in the girls restroom discovered March 1 explicitly states “I am going to kill (redacted).”

Unlike previous lock-downs and scares at the school, Clark County Prosecutor Andrew Wilson agreed to the charge of aggravated menacing since there was a specific threat to a specific individual, according to Sheriff Kelly.

"We're all hopeful that this will end these senseless disruptions to the school day" said Tecumseh Superintendent Norm Glismann. "Mr. Dixon and the middle school staff hope to get back to the business of educating students tomorrow without worry and without disruption."

“This will NOT be tolerated” exclaimed Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly after sending the bulk of his department to Tecumseh for the fourth time in 11 days. “We take every threat seriously, so we send Deputies, Detectives, District Command…it’s a full response every time!”

When asked about a total dollar amount on just one response to a potential school shooter, Kelly said “I am pulling resources across the entire county, we are talking about hundreds of students misplaced during school, parents being interrupted at work to check on their children…this really affects the entire community and the entire county.”

"Thank you to the TMS students and staff members who have been so patient and cooperative during the past two weeks" added Glismann.

Before ending the interview I asked Sheriff if he can give out any details on our hero of the day, the middle school-er who informed authorities immediately. “We can’t due to her age. But she knows who she is, and so do her parents. SHE is the story today.”

The investigation into two other reported threats at Tecumseh Middle School continues.

Anyone with any information about the reported threats at Tecumseh Middle School are urged to contact the Clark County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 328-2560.
