Tthe Clark County Commissioners authorized a contract with GT Environmental, Inc. for $18,500 to perform a solid waste transfer station study for the Clark County Solid Waste District. The contract is effective from February 3, 2016 through August 31, 2016. According to County Administrator Nathan Kennedy, having a transfer located in the county is a very good idea. He said, “It would be cheaper for local haulers. The study is not site specific. The purpose is to identify possible sites and to locate the facility in an industrial area. Our local haulers pay higher rates because they have to take the stuff out of the county.” He added, “It may encourage rural township haulers to initiate curbside recycling.”

In other business, the commissioners authorized a contract with O.R. Colan Associates for the Engineer Department for consulting fees for $13,475. O.R. Colan Associates will provide services to the department on the Right-of-Way access for the Newlove Road Bridge.

For Buildings and Grounds, the commissioners authorized a contract with Waibel Trane for $30,416 for HVAC maintenance and an extended warranty for the Springview Government Center effective January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016.

For the Department of Job and Family Services, the commissioners approved the amendment of the contract with Jules Krizan. The contract was increased by $9,000 and extended for an additional year. The hourly rate was increased effective January 1, 2016 and is effective through March 10, 2017.

In addition, the commissioners increased the contract with St Joseph Orphanage by $150,000 and extended it through December 31, 2017. The total for the contract is $165,000.

In regular business, the commissioners appointed Jim Burkhardt to West Central Community Corrections Facility Board for a term to expire December 31, 2018.

The next meeting of the Clark County Commissioners is scheduled for February 17, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. in the commissioners’ conference room at 50 E. Columbia Street.
