A kitchen fire caused moderate to heavy damage to a home at the 200 block of W. Jefferson St. Friday evening.

“The family was fixing dinner in a deep fryer, the grease boiled over and caught fire,” said Assistant Fire Chief Rick Ritter. “The cabinets soon caught fire.”

Ritter said the fire damage was limited to the kitchen, but the entire house suffered smoke damage.

The family of three and the dog were able to escape safely.

“We were able to knock it down pretty fast,” said Ritter.

New Carlisle Fire crews received assistance from Bethel, Elizabeth and Pike Townships.
