A crowd packed the public chambers on the fifth floor of the Clark County Administration Building to witness the commission’s changing of the guard. Probate Court Judge Richard P. Carey presided over the procedure. He said, “We are here to celebrate the start of a new administration and celebrate the process of the transfer of power.”

Commissioner-Elect Melanie Flax-Wilt took the oath of office first. Supported by her two children, she raised her right hand and swore to perform the duties of the commissioner to support the constitution faithfully to the best of her ability. She told the crowd, “I am overwhelmed that you all came to support me. I look forward to doing great things for Clark County and to carry on the traditions of my grandfather for the county.” Her term will begin on January 2, 2017.

Commissioner-Elect Lowell McGlothin, supported by his sister, and his son and his family followed. When he had completed his commitment to perform his duties to the best of his ability, he said, “Thank you for all your help. I will perform this job to the best of my ability. I love this county. Thank you again and thanks for being here.” McGlothin’s term starts on January 3, 2017.
