Friday 2/24

6:06 p.m. While patrolling the 300 block of Fenwick Dr., a deputy saw a woman that she believed was a wanted person. She spoke with the woman who identified herself as the suspect, who was wanted for confinement of dogs. The warrant was delivered to her.

Saturday 2/25

9:28 a.m. Traffic stop on Rt. 235 just north of Rt. 40. She was found to have an outstanding warrant and was found to be licensed in Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. All four licenses were under suspension. She was cited for driving under suspension and was ordered into court on her warrant.

1:30 p.m. To Richie’s Sunoco for a report of a drunk driver. The subject was at a gas pump and was trying to put gloves on his feet and was trying to open the hood with his keys. He then got in his car and tried to leave. The deputy arrived to see someone keeping him from leaving. When the subject saw the deputy, he closed the door. He had bloodshot eyes and spoke with thick, slurred speech. The driver was confused about where he was and what day it was. He failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for OVI. He had four previous OVI convictions, so the vehicle was towed. The deputy checked the car before it was towed and found a bottle of synthetic urine for drug tests. On the way to the Clark County Jail, the driver lapsed into unconsciousness. At the hospital, he was treated for an overdose and with Narcan. He refused a urine test, and was then charged with OVI and driving under suspension.

9:11 p.m. A Bischoff Rd. resident called to report a loss of his toolbox, He said the tailgate of his truck fell open and the toolbox fell out. He said he retraced his route, but could not find the toolbox. He was advised that he would be contacted if someone reported finding it.

Sunday 2/26

9:40 a.m. To Lake Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that sometime overnight, someone took his vehicle from his driveway. He said that he had left the keys in it. He suspected his son, but has no proof. The deputy said he did not recognize the son’s name, and the man said “I’m sure you will because he is on Meth.” At 9:59 a.m., the vehicle was located at the Sandman Motel on W. National Rd. A woman exited the vehicle and the deputy ordered her to the ground at gunpoint. She said that she was just moving it for a friend. The deputy saw her purse in the vehicle and found several white pills and a straw in her purse. HE also found a marijuana cigarette on the driver’s floorboard. She then said that she was picked up by the RP’s son around 7:00 this morning and they drove to the motel. She said he then told her to move the car to a different parking spot. She identified the room that he entered. The deputy checked that room, and the occupants said that the son fled out a back window when he saw the deputy arrive. The RP soon arrived and said that there was no damage to the vehicle. He said he would cooperate with prosecution of his son. The woman was taken to the Clark County Jail and charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges of drug possession were pending lab results.

4:27 p.m. Traffic stop on Rt. 40 in front of Tecumseh High School. The deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He told the driver to have the children exit the vehicle. He admitted that there was marijuana in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded meth, marijuana, scales, a meth pipe and baggies. He was placed under arrest. The children were given a ride home. The driver, Billy Horn, of Todd Lee Dr., said that the meth was his for personal use and that the marijuana was not his. He was charged with two counts of trafficking in drugs, possession of methamphetamines, possession of marijuana, two counts of endangering children, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and fictitious plates. He was taken to the Clark County Jail and the vehicle was towed.

Monday 2/27

9:14 a.m. To Coachhill Lane for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her boyfriend locked her out of her apartment. The deputy arrived to find the woman on the front porch and the door open. She said that she did not need the deputies after all since he let her in. She said she went to a neighbor’s to call 911, and when she returned, they started arguing. The boyfriend said that the argument was over her failure to clean the apartment. The woman then said that she does not feel safe with him. She said that he was going to work and she did not feel safe watching his child. The boyfriend left for work and the woman became upset, telling the deputy, “You didn’t do anything.” She was advised that there was nothing the deputy could do. She was advised that she would have to evict the boyfriend. She responded, “well then, when you come out and find me dead in the driveway, maybe you should have.”

3:03 p.m. To N. Main St. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that she and her husband had been arguing at their home on Washington St. since noon. She said she left the residence to get the kids out of the house and went to Speedway. She said that she and the kids went inside, and her husband showed up with his mother-in-law, got in her vehicle and left. She was advised that since they are married, the vehicle is shared property. She said that she was tired of the arguing, and that she had no place else to stay for a few hours. She said she just wanted to take her kids home. The deputy went to the home and the husband said that they had been arguing all day and that she got mad and left in his truck with their children. He said that when she left, she hit the curb and was squealing the tires, and he was concerned for the kids’ welfare. Both parties were advised to stay away from each other, and that if they start arguing again, someone should step outside and call the deputies again.

5:39 p.m. To W. National Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that someone took his fishing equipment from his shed. He said seven rids with reels and an unknown amount of tackle were missing. There are no suspects.

9:01 p.m. Suspicious person/vehicle in the 6700 block of US Route 40.

Sunday 2/26

7:29 a.m. Theft not in progress in the area of S. State Route 202 and E. State Route 571. Two Polaris ATV’s were found in the roadway. No further information available.

Monday 2/27

11:30 a.m. Accidental shooting reported in the 6400 block of Scarff Road. Dayton Children’s Hospital Social Services Department contacted Miami County Dispatch Center to report a gunshot victim. Their office advised a juvenile was brought in with a gunshot wound to the left arm. This incident has been described to them as accidental. Deputy responded to the listed address and made contact with the victim and involved parties. Written statements were taken and photos of the residence, firearm and gunshot wound were taken. This case is pending further investigation.

5:38 p.m. Abandoned vehicle reported in the 7100 block of S. Dayton Brandt Road.

Tuesday 2/28

9:51 a.m. Traffic stop in the 5700 block of S. Dayton Brandt Road. Christopher Chaffman was stopped for driving a Zero Turn Riding Mower. The stop was initiated because it was an unregistered vehicle and did not have a slow moving vehicle caution sign. When asked what he was doing on the mower, he said he was trying to get home. Chaffman was found to have an active warrant from Clark County and was taken into custody. Deputy asked if he had anything on his person that would poke him, Chaffman stated he had a knife. In searching Chaffman a Cheffield knife, Craftsman multi-tool knife, utility knife, ratcheting screw driver and wire cutters were found on his person. He also was wearing black gloves over rubber gloves. Deputy also noted in this report that Chaffman was wearing three sets of clothing. Again he was asked about the mower, he stated it belonged to a friend who lived at the dead end of Dayton Brandt Road. He further stated this friend was letting him rent it for the summer. Deputy checked for the friend’s name in the area and was able to locate someone with this name on Rudy Road. Deputy made contact with the Rudy Road resident who stated he was not missing a mower and he didn’t know Chaffman. Again the deputy asked Chaffman who owner the mower and did he have permission to have it. Chaffman stated “yes sir”. Chaffman was transported to the MCSO and turned over to a detective for further questioning. The mower was towed to the impound lot.

4:12 p.m. Criminal damage reported in the 8800 block of US Route 40. The main electric to the barn had been cut. Victim believes items had also been tampered with inside the barn, as well as additional damage to a window. At the time of the report, the property owner did not believe anything and been stolen. Information was forwarded to detectives due to a possible connection to recent incidents in the area.

Thursday 3/2

10:29 a.m. Abandoned vehicle in the 9300 block of S. Mann Road. RP reported a vehicle had been blocking her driveway since Wednesday. The truck is parked in the middle of the lane and is locked up. The column didn’t appear to have been tampered with and nothing else suspicious would suggest it had been stolen. Dispatch attempted to contact the registered owner with no answer. The RP filled out a written statement confirmed the vehicle had been there a full day. The truck was towed from the property. Deputy left a message for the registered owner on where he could find his truck.

Friday 3/3

2:47 a.m. Traffic stop in the area of US Route 40 and S. State Route 202. Deputy observed vehicle traveling at a greater speed than posted. Traffic stop was initiated and contact made with the driver, Christopher Click. A check through LEADS found that Click was driving under a suspended license. He was issued a citation for speed and DUS, released to a valid operator.
