Sunday 8/28

11:26 a.m. To N. Main St. A deputy located a truck at the Speedway station that bore a stolen dealer plate. The driver said he got the plate from a friend who works at the dealership. In his truck were some cases containing miscellaneous trinkets. He said he found them in the house he is living in. The deputy collected the trinkets for further investigation. The driver was charged with receiving stolen property and driving under suspension.

2:06 p.m. To Weinland St. for a dispute. A woman reported that she wanted her adult daughter to move out because she does not want her daughter there and the daughter does not pay bills. The daughter said her mother is developing dementia and needs constant attention. Bethel Twp. EMS was called and said that the woman was fine. The daughter said she would go to her ex-husband’s home. The woman’s grandson came to stay with her until other arrangements could be made.

6:39 p.m. To Edgebrook Dr. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her sister and her sister’s boyfriend live together at this address. She said that the sister and boyfriend have been arguing all day and the sister wanted the boyfriend to leave. She was advised that the deputy cannot force the boyfriend to leave his home. The boyfriend denied arguing with the sister, and said that her family is “putting ideas in her head.” He agreed to leave for the night. As he was gathering some belongings, he made antagonizing remarks to the sister’s family members. The sister said she was afraid of the boyfriend

7:01 p.m. To Coachhill Lane for a report of a domestic disturbance. A man reported that he and his sister were involved in a verbal dispute because she wanted to leave in her vehicle while she was intoxicated. He said he took her keys and she tried to get them back from him. Both agreed to be civil for the rest of the evening.

8:13 p.m. To Lake Rd. for a report of a possible burglary. A man reported that someone entered his residence while he was not home and took a 32” TV and $600 in cash. There are no suspects.

Monday 8/29

3:31 p.m. To N. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of a neighbor dispute. A man reported that his neighbor has been going onto his property. He said he does not want the neighbor on his property or taking anything from it. He said he had his property surveyed and the neighbor removed one of the land markers. He said that there is an ongoing issue with the neighbor over the property line.

11:33 p.m. To Woodbury Rd. for a possible theft. A man reported that he received a text message from a woman he barely knew stating that his apartment was being robbed. He said that he called a neighbor who said that there was a lot of foot traffic but wasn’t sure why. He said he called the woman back but got no answer. He called deputies, then went home on his lunch break and found that his AC unit had been tampered with. He said that nothing was stolen, but believes that someone was messing with his AC unit.

Tuesday 8/30

12:22 p.m. To Hawthorn Ave. to assist Health Department employees in posting an eviction notice to vacate the premises immediately. Weeks ago the home was found to be without running water. There have also been several squad runs to the home lately for drug-related instances and there have been multiple complaints about heavy traffic flow to and from the residence.

12:50 p.m. To Gerlaugh Rd. for a report of a theft. A woman reported that she was paying bills and found that money was missing from her account. She said that there were over $300 in unauthorized charges. She said that the only other person who had access to her card was her son. She said she questioned him about the charges, and he admitted to making them. She said she is unaware of her son’s location and that he is at large.

6:59 p.m. To Galewood Dr. for a report of a fight. Deputies arrived to discover that a man and a woman who reside together had been arguing over the male half’s attempt to leave with the female half’s car keys and food stamp card. She said that he has been upset and yelling at her for texting other men. She said that during the argument he grabbed her shoulders and pushed her, then began to walk away with the keys and the card. The male half denied putting his hands on her and said that he never had any of her property. He said he was leaving to get away from the situation before deputies arrived. She said she did not wish to press charges but wanted the male half to leave. He agreed to do so, and the female half advised she was leaving with her children for safety. She was provided information on obtaining a protection order.

Wednesday 8/31

5:58 a.m. To Frayne Dr. for a report of an altercation. A woman reported that she allowed a man who she just met stay at her home overnight because he had no place to go. She said that her boyfriend told her that he wanted to come over so she told the man that he had to leave. She said the man then became upset, pushed her through the front door onto the porch, placed his hand on her throat, twisted her arm behind her back, grabbed her phone and left in an unknown direction. Bethel Twp. EMS was called, but she refused treatment. She was uncooperative and said that deputies needed to find her phone because the man has it. She had open sores, possibly from drug use. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the man. The woman said she wanted to press charges. A warrant was issued against the man for assault and theft.

4:58 p.m. To Styer Dr. for a report of found property. A woman reported that she found a red and black bicycle on the curb in front of her home. She said she spoke with neighbors but no one knew who owns it.

5:38 p.m. To Lake Rd. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her daughter has a drug problem, so she allowed her to stay with her for the past two days and told her that there were to be no drugs in the home. She said that she has custody of both of her daughter’s children and did not want drugs around the children. She said that today she found her daughter shooting up heroin in the bathroom and an argument began. She said that they have been arguing most of the day. She said that when she returned home from a meeting with her attorney, she found her daughter going through her things and she told her daughter to get out of the house. She said she grabbed her daughter by the shirt in an attempt to force her out of the home. She said her daughter threatened to kill and rob her, and that she is afraid of her daughter when she is using drugs. The daughter was very agitated and was yelling and talking over the deputies. She admitted to using two capsules of heroin today. She said that she was trying to get her belongings out of the home when her mother came in and thought she was going through the mother’s belongings. She said her mother punched her and pulled her hair. The daughter was arrested on one count of domestic violence and one count of aggravated menacing and taken to the Clark County Jail.

8:40 p.m. To N. Main St. for a report of a theft. A man reported that he went to a store and when he arrived he found that he had a flat tire. He said that he must have set his keys down somewhere but couldn’t find them. A store employee said she saw a woman in a red van pick up the keys and drive away with them.

9:55 p.m. To Rt. 4 and Lower Valley Pike for a report of a woman walking on the highway. The woman was located and she was found to have an outstanding warrant from Marion, Ohio.

10:15 p.m. To McAdams Dr. for a report of a theft. A man reported that someone stole his lawn mower from beside his shed. He believes his ex-wife took it, but has no proof. The lawn mower was entered as stolen.

Thursday 9/ 1

6:57 p.m. To Myers Cemetery. The groundskeeper reported that someone had hit a tombstone. A witness reported that he saw a black SUV in the area with an older female driving. He said that she was backing up and might have hit the headstone, but he was not sure. He did not get a plate number.

7:10 p.m. To Rawson Dr. for a report of a theft. A man reported that his wife called him asking where their Wii was. He said he believes his son took it because he has a history of taking his things. He said his son has a drug habit and needs help. He said that his son has been in and out of rehab several times but nothing has helped him. He did not wish to press charges.

Friday 9/ 2

7:28 a.m. To the Tecumseh Bus garage. A bus driver reported that a black SUV passed her bus on the berm yesterday while she was discharging passengers. The deputy watched the video which showed a female student about to exit the bus when the vehicle passed. The driver was contacted and admitted to passing the bus. He said he tried to stop, but his vehicle’s brakes need work and was not able to stop in time. He was cited for failure to control and for passing a stopped school bus.

9:30 a.m. A woman flagged down a deputy on N. Main St. to report that she found a clear baggie containing a white substance and a hat at this location. The deputy spoke with neighboring businesses, and one employee said that she saw a man wearing the found hat in the store last week. She said that she had not seen the man before and has not seen him since. The items were collected into evidence to be destroyed.

2:11 p.m. To Prentice Dr. for a report of a theft. A man reported that someone broke into his unlocked vehicle. Neither he nor his wife reported hearing anything and don’t know who took the items.

7:25 p.m. To Forest Rd. for a report of a theft. A woman reported that her wallet is missing. She said a neighbor came by to borrow some eggs and also asked to use the restroom. She said that about two hours later she noticed her wallet was missing. She said she has called and texted the neighbor but she won’t respond. She had $350 in cash and miscellaneous cards in her wallet.

9:31 p.m. To N. Main St. for a report of a theft. A woman walked out of a store with merchandise and did not pay for it. She was found hiding in bushes outside of the store. She was charged with theft.

10:13 p.m. To Campbell Ave. for a report of a theft. A woman reported that she is caring for her grandchildren because her daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend are heroin addicts. Her husband said that the daughter and boyfriend are stealing his tools to support their drug habit. He said he felt bad for them and allowed them to stay at his home, but lately things have been getting out of hand. He said they are gone from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., leaving four children with their grandparents. He believes they are stealing for drugs.

Saturday 9/ 4

1:35 a.m. To Drake Ave. A woman reported that her boyfriend’s mother and aunt followed her for several blocks and tried to get her to fight them. She said they are upset that she is hanging out with another man while her boyfriend is in jail. She asked for information on obtaining a restraining order and requested a report. She said that they are also texting her constantly and making threats. She was advised to ask them to stop, and if they continue, they could be charged.

4:13 p.m. To McAdams Dr. A man reported that he got into a fight at a bar around 2:30 this morning. He said he was knocked out, and when he came to his girlfriend was picking up his things, but could not find his wallet. His girlfriend said the assailant told her that the wallet was his, so she gave it to him. He did not wish to press charges for the assault, but only wanted to report the missing items.

6:08 p.m. To Edgebrook Dr. for a report of an accident. A driver was backing out of a driveway and backed into the path of an eastbound vehicle. The driver was cited for improper backing.

6:30 p.m. To Island Dr. for a report of a theft. A man reported that his son left his bike near the front of his property and that three hours later it was missing. He said that the same bike was stolen last June, but was returned without incident.

7:35 p.m. To Frayne Dr. for a welfare check. A man requested that deputies check on his son’s welfare after he heard that the boy’s step-father smacked him in the face. The boy’s mother explained that the boy was talking back to her and her husband when his father dropped him off. She said her husband tried to smack him in the mouth for discipline, and that the father became very upset and began yelling at the step-father. The man was advised of what the deputy learned. The man asked about his visitation rights and how to file charges against the step-father. He was advised to contact his attorney about visitation rights, and that the deputy did not believe that charges were necessary because the step-father was only disciplining the boy. The man became angry. He was advised that he could contact the Prosecutor’s office about filing charges.

11:35 p.m. To Brubaker Dr. A woman reported that her nephew came to her residence, dropped off a gun and left. She said he told her he would be back for it. Dispatch confirmed that the gun was not stolen. She said that she did not want the gun in her home and asked that the deputy take it. The gun was submitted into property. About an hour later, the deputy was dispatched to the residence because the nephew was there and trying to enter the woman’s home. He told the deputy that he wanted his cell phone back, and it was retrieved for him. He was advised that his aunt does not want him at her residence, and if he returns he could be charged.


Bethel Township (Miami Co.) Sheriff Reports

Friday 9/2

8:36 p.m. Traffic stop for broken rear tail light in the area of S. State Route 201 and Carriage Trails Parkway. Contact was made with the driver Marco Espinoza and passenger Luis Escorsia, reason for the stop was explained. While speaking with them the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. Espinoza was asked to step out of the vehicle and was told that an odor of marijuana was detected. He stated he had a baggie containing marijuana in his door along with a grinder. Escorsia was asked to step out of the vehicle and he also stated he had a baggie of marijuana and a grinder in his door. A search of the vehicle found the bags of marijuana and grinders where the two said they would be. Both Espinoza and Escorsia were cited for possessing marijuana and given a warning for possession of drug paraphernalia. Espinoza was also cited for the broken tail light. Both were released from the scene.

Saturday 9/3

00:58 a.m. Traffic stop for marked lane violations in the 5200 block of Studebaker Road. Contact was made with driver Jeffery S. Odell and reason for the stop explained. While speaking with Odell an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from inside the vehicle. Odell was asked to exit the vehicle and submit to a series of field sobriety tests. Unable to complete the tests as instructed, Odell was placed under arrest, transported to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and offered a chemical test. Odell refused the chemical breath test and he was immediately placed under an Administrative License Suspension for the refusal. Odell was released to a sober adult.

4:08 p.m. Theft complaint in the 6200 block of US Route 40. Female had a small business in Bethel Township and sent a two-man crew to a jobsite in Jewett, OH. Not completing the job, a second crew was sent to the jobsite. She became aware that multiple tools and pieces of equipment were missing from the jobsite, apparently stolen. Deputy advised the female that he would document the incident; however, it had to be reported to the law enforcement agency which serves the Jewett area.

11:30 p.m. Disturbance reported in the 2600 block of US Route 40. Deputies arrived at residence and observed Michael Shoopman sitting in the garage watching television. Shoopman advised that he and a female had been in an argument. One deputy was able to locate the female in a bedroom and she was visibly upset. She stated that Shoopman would not leave her alone and kept making threats to harm her. She further stated that when Shoopman drinks he becomes unstable and she is afraid of what he would do to her. The female also added that nothing had become physical that evening but she is scare of him and didn’t feel safe being with him. Deputies were able to view a video of the argument and hear Shoopman state “I’ll drop you like a dude”. Again speaking with Shoopman he stated they were in an argument and it was nothing but added he didn’t know what happened. Both parties refused to fill out written statements. After investigation, the deputy determined Shoopman would be charged with Domestic Violence due to the threats made to the female. Shoopman was placed into custody and transported to the Miami County Jail where he was incarcerated.

Sunday 9/4

3:28 a.m. Traffic stop for speeding in the area of S. State Route 202 and E. State Route 571. Driver Clint Vorhees was advised the reason for the stop. After running Vorhees through LEADS it was discovered that he had a suspended license. The license plate information did not match the description of the vehicle. Vorhees advised that the license plates on the vehicle did not belong to the vehicle. He had purchased the vehicle and lost the title before he could get it registered. Vorhees was cited for Speed, Driving Under Suspension and Fictitious Plates. Vehicle was towed and Vorhees was transported to his residence.

12:40 p.m. Theft not in progress reported in the 9300 block of Wildcat Road. Victim reported several power tools stolen out of his picnic shelter. The victim is gathering a detailed list and it wasn’t available at the time of this report. This case is pending further investigation.

Monday 9/5

9:06 a.m. Theft reported in the 6100 block of S. State Route 201. Victim report someone had stolen items out of the residence. Items listed in the report were Black and Decker Cordless Drill, Porter Cable Impact Gun, Belt Sander and a Red Pressure Washer.

1:10 p.m. Theft reported in the 4200 block of Lisa Drive. Victim reported a work truck and trailer stolen. The truck was described as a yellow 2003 Ford cargo truck. The flatbed trailer is approximately 20 feet long, black frame with yellow wheels, newly replaced wood flooring and missing one fender.

Tuesday 9/6

6:00 p.m. Trespassing complaint in the 6600 block of Palmer Road. RP reported a local farmer supposedly plants crops over the property line and continues to spray chemicals in her hay field. RP has posted signs and left notes on the famer’s truck requesting he stop. On this day the farmer drove through her hay field and parked on her property. The RP took photos of the farmer’s truck and the damaged hayfield.

Wednesday 9/7

6:07 p.m. Fraud reported in the 5300 block of S. Dayton Brandt Road. RP thought he had been taken for $2000 on an internet website called Best Solution. RP had purchased a lifetime security against hackers. Right after he had purchased the software, he called an agent at Microsoft. The agent advised him that the software as fraudulent. Microsoft was able did fix his computer by removed all spyware and malware. The RP also called the bank but was told the money had already been removed. The RP was advised to keep an eye on his credit report and was provided information on identity theft through the Ohio Attorney General’s office.

9:23 p.m. Fraud reported in the 6200 block of Ross Road. RP had received an Ashley Stewart credit card in the mail. When he called the number listed on the card and found out somebody had purchased $700 using the card. RP called the fraud department and made them aware. There are no suspects at this time.
