Sunday 4/24

9:31 a.m. A man came to the New Carlisle Substation concerned that someone might use his signature on a Power of Attorney. He said that he signed some papers for some friends so they could buy items from their granddaughter. He was later advised by one of their family members that they have a Power of Attorney form with his signature and that they’re going to clean out his bank account when he leaves town. He said that he wanted it documented that he did not knowingly sign any Power of Attorney form.

12:39 p.m. Traffic stop on Clay St. at Jefferson St. for expired plates. The deputy saw a Fraternal Order of Police on the vehicle and asked if he was in Law Enforcement. He replied that the decal belonged to his deceased sister’s ex-boyfriend. The emblem was collected and submitted into evidence. The driver was advised that the owner could pick up the emblem by producing proof of Law Enforcement and bringing the property receipt.

7:03 p.m. To Drake Ave. for a report of a disturbance. A woman reported that two people were arguing. She also expressed that one was a sex offender and lived close to the school. The man at the residence said that a boy was at the house earlier and there was a small argument, but he had since left. He said he knew he wasn’t supposed to be living that close to the school, but he said it is only a temporary arrangement while he cares for his ill mother.

9:29 p.m. To Galewood Dr. for a report of a possible assault. A man reported that a female friend was upset over something he posted on Facebook, and when he didn’t take it down, she got angry. He said she came to his home and started screaming at him and punched him in the face. He had a bruise on his left cheek. A warrant was issued for the woman for assault.

9:46 p.m. To Fyffe Ave. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her husband came home intoxicated and arguing about their recent marital problems. She said that he cornered her in the kitchen and threatened to kill her by burning down the house with her in it. She said he soon left. She said she fears for her life because on April 22, he choked her and held a knife to her throat. When deputies arrived, she said she lied and that there was nothing wrong. She said she lied because he was intoxicated and blacked out and figured everything would be OK in the morning. She filled out a statement and the husband was arrested on one count of domestic violence and one count of menacing and taken to the Clark County Jail.

Monday 4/25

12:46 a.m. To Hedwick St. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her husband called her at work while he was intoxicated and began arguing with her. She said that when she returned home, he started throwing things around the home. She said she wanted him to leave for the night so he could sober up and calm down. While deputies were talking with her, the husband came in and said that the wife needed to get off his property and that he was going to bed. She was advised that since they are married, deputies can only ask one to leave for the night and that they could not force anyone to leave.

9:33 a.m. To Weinland St. for a report of criminal damaging. A man reported that sometime last night, someone shot out the rear window of his vehicle.

1:33 p.m. To S. Dayton Lakeview Rd. for a report of breaking and entering. A man reported that someone entered his storage unit and stole some items. He said that the theft occurred more than two days ago, but he did not feel like calling due to health issues.

5:20 p.m. To Osborn Rd. for a report of theft. A man reported that four pots (valued at $50 each) were stolen from his porch. He said that he has never had anything stolen before and wanted the incident documented in case anything else should happen in the neighborhood.

Tuesday 4/26

7:11 a.m. To Lake Rd. for a report of criminal damaging. A woman reported that she is currently going through a divorce and that they have been staying with her parents. She said that her husband may have been served with eviction paperwork and may have come to her parents’ home and damaged her vehicle.

8:01 a.m. To White Pine St. for a report of vandalism. A man reported that someone drove a nail into the sidewall of a tire on his vehicle. He said that it had to be intentional. He suspects neighbors who he had recently reported to the City over their scrap metal collecting.

9:48 a.m. To Winnona Dr. for a report of phone harassment. A woman reported that she had just recently broken up with a man that she had dated for some time. She said that he started sending threatening texts. She was given information on obtaining a protection order.

12:06 p.m. To Charles Dr. for a report of harassment. A woman reported that she had dated a man a couple of times and has refused any further dates. She said that he was not happy of it. She said that he had someone follow her and that the person took a picture of her and sent it to the man. She said that she is concerned because he is a drug dealer.

4:12 p.m. To Union and Spangler Rds. for a report of the smell of a dead animal. The deputy searched the area and found a dead juvenile cow in an extremely advanced stage of decomposition with a tarp nearby. The cow appeared to have been transported to that location with use of the tarp. There were no signs of torture.

4:28 p.m. To N. Main St. for a report of a private property crash. A driver was backing out of a parking space and struck another vehicle. She was located and said that she did not know she hit anyone.

6:20 p.m. To Stratmore St. for a report of theft. A woman reported that her debit card had been stolen. She said she realized it when there was money missing from her account. She said that there were pending transactions from Beijing, China and that the charges totaled over $700. She said she cancelled the card, but the transactions still went through.

6:40 p.m. To Hyer St. A woman asked that her son be removed from her home. She said that he was staying with her because his father was in jail. She said that they had been arguing over the way he was talking to her. She said the argument became heated when he pushed over the kitchen cabinet. The deputy spoke to the father who just got out of jail today, and he advised that he would deal with his son’s issues.

8:08 p.m. To Funston Ave. for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputy saw a man on the front lawn and he said that he and his girlfriend were in an argument over their one-year-old daughter. He said that the girlfriend’s mother was upset that they were arguing and told him to leave. He then began arguing with the mother and her husband. The mother said that her daughter has recently moved in with them and that she was not being respectful of the rules. She said she does not want the boyfriend at her home because he and her daughter argue all the time and she has had enough. The daughter was upset because her mother will not allow her boyfriend in the house. She said she is an adult and can have whoever she wants at the home. She was advised that it is her parents’ home and they can decide who is and who is not allowed at the home. The boyfriend was trespassed from the residence and advised that if he returns, he could be charged.

10:32 p.m. To Kendig Rd. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her husband had been drinking and that their infant daughter was crying. She said that her 10-year-old son gave the child a pacifier to quiet her down and that her husband then pushed her son and said “if you touch my daughter again, I’ll kill you.” She said when they got home, her son locked himself in the bathroom stating that he was afraid of his step-father. She said she wanted to press charges on behalf of her son. The husband said that they had argued but had no idea why deputies were involved. He denied threatening the boy. The husband was arrested for domestic violence and aggravated menacing and taken to the Clark County Jail.

11:46 p.m. To Elm Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that he allowed his wife’s cousin to stay with them for a few weeks to help him out. He said that the cousin had just been released form jail and had no place to stay. The wife said that they soon noticed a change in his behavior, and yesterday told him to find another place to live, and he left without incident. She said that today a family member called her to report that the cousin had asked for a ride to the coin shop in New Carlisle to sell jewelry. She said she then went to her jewelry box and found several rings missing. She said she and her husband then started looking around the house and found that several other items were missing. They did not want to press charges, but wanted the incident documented.

Wednesday 4/27

9:23 a.m. To Quick Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that a trailer was stolen from the business. He said he does not have surveillance cameras, but that he would check with a neighboring business when they get in.

6:30 p.m. To Cliffside Dr. for a report of an accident. A driver pulled into a driveway but did not have the vehicle fully in park. The vehicle rolled backwards and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle.

9:36 p.m. To Cedar Rd. for a report of a burglary. A man reported that he returned home to find the front door open. He said he went in to investigate and noticed that a TV, a .22 revolver, a .38 revolver and several other items were missing. He said that a window was also open, which appeared to be the point of entry. Several fingerprints were lifted. He said he suspects a neighbor who has a criminal history. He said that another neighbor has seen the suspect neighbor around his property.

Thursday 4/28

7:35 a.m. To W. National Rd. near Lake Rd. for a report of an accident. A driver westbound on National Rd. reported that her front brake locked up causing the vehicle to travel off the right side of the road where it struck a mailbox, then came to rest. She said the vehicle was recently in the shop for brake work. She was cited for failure to control.

7:49 a.m. To S. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of breaking and entering. A store employee said that when he came to work, he found the front glass broken out. The store manager soon arrived and found that cash, gas cards and numerous other items were missing. Deputies checked nearby businesses trying to find if anyone captured the incident on surveillance video.

5:07 p.m. To Lower Valley Pike for a report of an assault. A man reported that his step-son arrived at his home uninvited and wanted to stay there. He said that he told the step-son that he could not stay there and an argument ensued. He said the step-son pepper-sprayed him and his mother and kicked him and struck him with a baseball bat several times. He said the stepson then left. The stepson was located in Springfield. A can of pepper spray was found in his vehicle. He was arrested and transported to the Clark County Jail on multiple charges.

8:55 p.m. To S. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of an accident. A driver had struck a pole in a parking lot. A store employee said that the incident was probably captured on surveillance video, but would have to wait until the manager arrived to retrieve it. The driver did not appear to be impaired. A passer-by reported seeing the driver throw something under the seat. The driver said that there was nothing illegal and consented to a search. Deputies found a small baggie of marijuana in the center console. The driver said, “Oh, yeah. I forgot about that.” He was charged with possession of marijuana.

Friday 4/29

2:15 p.m. To Michael Dr. for a report of a burglary. A man reported that he is in the process of moving in. He said that today he found several items were missing from his home. There was damage to the rear door, and it appeared that the door was pried open. He was advised to get a good lock for the back door. There are no suspects.

3:34 p.m. To Weinland St. for a report of an abandoned vehicle. A man reported that a vehicle had been parked in front of his home unmoved for six months. The deputy saw that the plates expired in March and that the vehicle had been tagged to be moved, but the tag had been ripped off of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed.

4:39 p.m. To N. Clay St. for a welfare check. The elderly woman seemed surprised to see deputies, and she was advised that someone asked that deputies check on her because she had been getting several scam calls. She said that she had received calls yesterday about a rewards scam and took the phone off the hook so she wouldn’t get any more. She was also surprised that someone knew that she had received scam calls because she didn’t tell anyone about them. The deputy called the number of the 911 caller and it went to voice mail.

4:56 p.m. Traffic stop on Weinland at LeMay for driving on the shoulder. The deputy could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver produced a bag of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was cited.

5:29 p.m. Traffic stop on Lower Valley Pike at Gerlaugh Rd. for expired plates. The deputy could smell marijuana from the vehicle. The driver said she had just renewed the plates and that the system must not be updated yet. She said that a passenger smoked marijuana in her vehicle about an hour ago. The deputy asked where the marijuana was. She replied “if I give it to you would you cite me?” The deputy said he had no discretion. She produced a bag of marijuana from her bra and was cited for possession of marijuana.

7:19 p.m. Traffic stop on Rt. 235 at Rt. 40 for no tail lights and failure to display registration. Dispatch advised that the passenger had an outstanding warrant. Both the driver and passenger had marijuana key chains and lighter holders and denied having anything illegal in the vehicle. The driver consented to a search and the deputy found two bags of marijuana and a digital scale behind the glove box. The driver said he had just paid $80 for it. He was charged with possession of marijuana.

7:41 p.m. To W. National Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that a utility trailer was stolen. He said that it was hitched to his truck but was not locked on. There are no suspects.

9:37 p.m. To Funston Ave. for a report of a theft. A man and woman reported that their daughter entered their home and stole a wedding ring. She said that the daughter came to the home when she thought no one would be home, but her sister was there. She said that a friend called her and advised that the daughter was going to a pawn shop. She said her daughter then sent her a text stating that she took the ring and was going to pawn it. She did not wish to press charges because she thinks she can get the ring back.

Saturday 4/30

5:17 p.m. To S. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of an assault. A woman reported that she went to visit her mother because of her failing report card and that her mother attacked her and pushed her around the house. She had several marks on her from the scuffle. The mother said that she argued with her daughter but that it was only verbal. She said that she does not want her daughter to go down the wrong path and not be able to graduate from high school. The girl’s grandfather soon arrived and said that the girl lives with him. He said she is having problems in school because “she just doesn’t care any more.” He said that she should not even be driving because she is under suspension. The mother was charged with assault due to the daughter’s statements and physical injuries consistent with her statements.

8:14 p.m. To Jefferson St. for a report of a possible heroin overdose. New Carlisle Medics were already on scene and were about to administer Narcan. The resident said he only knew the victim for a couple of days. The victim was soon revived and became aggressive with the Medics and shoved them away. He then acted like he was going to lunge at the Medics, so the deputy took him to the ground and cuffed him. The victim was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital.

10:37 p.m. To Forest Dr. for a report of a tenant problem. A man reported that a tenant had a non-approved washing machine in the apartment that was leaking water and causing damage. He said that he confronted her about this, and that her boyfriend harassed him about why the apartment can’t be altered to accept a washing machine. He said that he has already begun eviction proceedings and wanted the boyfriend trespassed from the building. Both had left before the deputy arrived.

Bethel Township

Friday 4/29

11:12 p.m. Traffic stop for speeding in the area of S. State Route 202 and E. State Route 571. Deputy found the vehicle to be traveling at 80 MPH and activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle continued northbound and then turned east onto Childrens Home Grayson Road in what appeared to be an attempt to elude the deputy. The deputy changed his siren cadence several times in an attempt to get the vehicle to stop. The driver continued eastbound into Casstown where it finally came to a stop. A fenoly traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Lavar Cottrell, was taken into custody.

Saturday 4/30

2:54 p.m. Accident with no injury in the 5500 block of Pisgah Road. A US postal carrier called to report he was operating one of the postal trucks and while turning around in a driveway accidently backed into a fence.

4:41 p.m. Traffic stop for a speed violation in the 6200 block of E. State Route 571, After further investigation, the driver was cited for speed and driving under a non-compliance suspension,

Sunday 5/1

4:47 a.m. Accident with injury in the 400 block of S. Davidson Brandt Road. One driver had left the scene and was later located. This driver was issued a citation for street racing, reasonable control and speed. At the time of this report the deputy still needed to speak to the other car’s driver.

Monday 5/2

12:53 p.m. Unruly juvenile reported at Bethel School, 7490 S. State Route 201. RP reported that her 6 year old son had been threaten at school by a 7 year old on April 28. RP had already contacted the school and want the incident documented.

6:46 p.m. Menacing complaint at Bethel Schools, 7490 S. State Route 201. RP called to speak with a deputy regarding a possible act of menacing that was directed towards her daughter. This alleged incident occurred in the lunch room. This matter is pending further investigation.

Wednesday 5/4

11:17 a.m. Civil dispute reported in the 9200 block of South State Route 201

6:19 p.m. Traffic stop in the area of US Route 40 and Palmer Road. Deputy was dispatched on a complaint of a motor vehicle that was for sale and it had not been paid for. The RP said the vehicle was being driven by the prospective new owner and he had not returned it. The current owner was following the vehicle in the area of St Route 201 and US Route 40. The deputy located the vehicle and a traffic stop initiated. At the end of the incident, the truck was returned to the title holders and the driver was cited with failure to reinstate and fictitious plates.

Thursday May 5

3:37 p.m. Theft not in progress reported in the 7700 block of Windham Drive. RP reported a theft of his prescription medication. He stated he left a bottle with 11 adderall pills in a friend’s car overnight. He stated the friend was inside with him the whole night and he did not take them. The RP was unsure whether the car was left unlocked. He further stated there were no other people at the house with them. When asked for more information on the friend and vehicle, he stated he did not know the friend’s last name because he only met him a month ago. The RP also did not have information on the vehicle. The only thing he knew was the first name of the male. Again he stated he was sure that his friend did not take the pills. Both the friend and vehicle had left the residence at this point.
