The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Christopher M. Chaffman, twenty-nine years of age, of New Carlisle with two counts of Breaking and Entering, Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, Tampering with Evidence, and Arson.

The charges stem from a pattern of criminal activity beginning on February 26, 2017 leading up to his arrest on February 28, 2017.

On February 26, 2017 an enclosed trailer was discovered at Hart Cemetery on Walnut Grove Road in Elizabeth Township which had been reported stolen in Montgomery County. The trailer had been set on fire. Later, two all-terrain vehicles were discovered near State Route 202 and Tipp Elizabeth Road which had been stolen from a barn near State Route 202 and Children’s Home Road.

On February 27, 2017, Chaffman’s truck was found abandoned near Scarff Road and US Route 40 in Bethel Township. The truck was impounded and stolen property was located.

On February 28, 2017, Christopher Chaffman was stopped by a deputy in the 5700 block of Dayton Brandt Road, Bethel Township while driving a riding lawn mower. The lawn mower was determined to have been stolen from the 7900 Block of Scarff Road, Bethel Township.
