A Park Layne man has been arrested on numerous charges after beating his girlfriend with the butt end of a handgun.
Deputies were dispatched to the Springfield Regional Medical Center to speak to the victim, who was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
She said that her boyfriend, John Hicks, Jr., took her phone to try to see who she was communicating with and refused to give the phone back to her. She said that when she tried to get the phone back, he pulled out a silver handgun and struck her in the head repeatedly, shoved her to the ground and kicked her.
Deputies contacted U.S. Marshals for assistance. They checked a Styer Dr. address, the location of the incident, but Hicks was not there. They did locate evidence and a handgun was taken as evidence. They then checked an address on Hyer St. There they located Hicks and took him into custody. Deputies also located the handgun used in the incident concealed in a couch.
Hicks was taken to the Clark County Jail and charged with domestic violence, assault, robbery and two charges of using a weapon while under disability. He was also found to have a warrant out of Montgomery County, and will be held on that warrant as well.
He is to be arraigned in Clark County Municipal Court on February 27.
