On Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 12:48 A.M., members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle for speed on Selma Road near Spring Street in Springfield. Troopers approached the vehicle on foot and made brief contact with the suspect at which time the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

Troopers pursued the vehicle on several streets at slow speeds at which time the suspect eventually swerved right and struck the left front side of a State Patrol cruiser. There were no injuries in that intentional act. The pursuit led troopers into Champaign County on Springfield Urbana Rd. Stop Sticks were eventually deployed and flattened the right rear tire of the suspect vehicle.

The slow speed pursuit continued northbound on US 68 into the City of Urbana where the suspect avoided Stop Sticks deployed by Urbana PD officers. Troopers tried to get the suspect vehicle to stop again at which point the suspect rammed into the same cruiser (that was struck before), disabling it. The suspect eventually drove to an address in Urbana and was taken into custody without further incident. Charges will include OVI, Driving under Suspension, Fleeing and Eluding, Assault on a Police Officer, Vandalism and possibly others.

The suspect, 46 year old Eric Turner is a parolee and was incarcerated in the Tri County Jail.

There were no injuries as a result of the vehicle damages to either vehicle.
