A two-car accident on Rt. 235 near Stafford Rd. closed the highway for several hours Saturday afternoon.

A Volkswagen bug, driven by a woman who was not familiar with the area, had rear-ended another vehicle. The driver of the VW said that she was looking for a family member’s home and was traveling at a low rate of speed. She said her brakes apparently failed and she struck another vehicle and hers caught fire.

There were apparently no injuries. The incident is under investigation by the Springfield Post of the State Highway Patrol.
