Senior Reid Hale and freshman Ciera Goin were honored at the January 24th meeting of the New Carlisle Rotary Club as the Rotary Student of the Month and Rotary Citizen of the Month, respectively.

Hale has attended Tecumseh Schools since kindergarten. A fourth generation Arrow, Hale stated that Tecumseh is his family’s school, his heritage. “Tecumseh has given me many opportunities for success and has prepared me for life after high school,” said Hale.

In his speech to the Rotary Club, Hale shared two of his life’s goals: one, to be there for his parents when they need him, just like they have been there for him; and two, to own his own business creating anything from business cards to t-shirts to websites for customers. “Getting a college education would be the first step toward achieving those goals,” said Hale. He has been accepted into the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University where he plans to major in graphic design beginning in the fall of 2017.

Hale has taken every art class offered at Tecumseh. Two of his graphic design pieces were selected for the cover of the student handbook. He is currently taking Painting and Web Design in addition to government, physics, calculus, and English.

A member of National Honor Society and Student Council, Hale has also earned an Academic Varsity Letter and has been named a Scholar Athlete. He has been the recipient of the Allstate Good Hands Award four times, named Second Team All-League and Sportsmanship Award winner in cross-country, and received Special Mention All-League in baseball. He is currently a member of the Varsity basketball team.

Hale recognized Mr. Kyle Leathley, a teacher and coach, as someone who has had a major impact on his life. “At times, Mr. Leathley has probably had more confidence in me than I have had in myself. He is positive and encouraging which is exactly what I needed when I was an underclassman.”

Hale, the son of Chad and Kim Hale, thanked the Rotary Club for recognizing him as the Student of the Month.

Ciera Goin, daughter of Gary and Janice Goin, is a freshman at Tecumseh High School. This is her first year in the district. She was a member of the Varsity soccer team.

“Soccer comes natural to me; I’ve been playing since I was three. School does not; I constantly push myself to do my best,” said Goin.

Goin recognized Foreign Language Teacher Mrs. Budding as the best teacher and person she knows. “Mrs. Budding pushes me to do the best that I can and always be the best person I can be.”

“I cannot be any more thankful for this opportunity,” Goin told the Rotary Club of her nomination as Rotary Citizen of the Month.
