It was a successful day at the Shawnee Invitational for the three area swim teams last week, as Tecumseh, Northwestern and Greenon all had several of their swimmers place in the top 20 of the meet.

On the boys’ side, Northwestern placed 11th overall in the meet with 32 points, while Bethel was 16th (21) and Tecumseh finished 18th (18). For the girls’ the Arrows scored 52 points to place them seventh, while Bethel was ninth (49) and Northwestern was 12th (28).

Bethel junior Eiliana Wright brought home the championship in the girls’ 100 Butterfly, as she swam a 1:02.59, less than one second ahead of her closest competitor. Northwestern’s Emmy Funderburg was 15th in the event.

Drew Blazer from Northwestern finished fifth in the boys’ 100 Butterfly with Max Schell from Bethel placing tenth.

In the girls 200 medley relay, Bethel placed sixth overall as Grace McKinney, Rachel Norris, Maggie Kahler and Wright swam a 2:16.16, finishing one spot ahead of Tecumseh, who was seventh overall with Michelle Murray, Hannah Peck, Julia Randenburg and Aurora Miller. They swam the event in 2:16.25. The Northwestern group of Sophia Kibler, Kimberlee Newland, Alex Smith and Funderburg placed 16th, and Bethel had a second group place 20th (Anna Tingley, Rachel Tingley, Mya Stephenson and Savannah Short).

Bethel also placed tenth overall in the boys’ event, as Brandon Moore, Kyle Smith, chell and Connor Whelan swam a 2:11.83. Northwestern finished 12th in that event with Dean Wells, Brennan Deramus, Drew Blazer and Liam Burns swam 2:12.54..

Peck placed seventh overall in the girls’ 200 freestyle with a time of 2:15.17, while Bethel sophomore Maurissa Smith placed 13th, and her teammate Stephenson was 14th.

In the boys’ 200 free, Schell placed 17th for the Bees with a 2:37.58, with Wells from Northwestern placing 20th.

Northwestern placed two swimmers in the top 20 of the girls’ 200 IM, as Funderburg was 13th and Smith placed 14th. Deramus placed seventh overall in the boys 200 IM, as the Northwestern freshman swam 2:58.62.

In the girls’ 50 Free, Tecumseh placed two swimmers in the top ten, as Murray placed sixth overall with a 28.33 and Peck was seventh with 28.41. Bethel’s Kahler finished 15th overall. In the boys’ race, Kennedy gave Tecumseh an 11th place finish, with Brandon Moore of Bethel placing 13th.

The 100 Free for girls saw Randenberg finish third, as the Arrows sophomore swam a time of 1:00.38. Stephenson and Kahler from Bethel finished 17th and 20th respectively. In the boys’ race, Tecumseh sophomore Logan Back finished tenth overall with a time of 1:02.21.

Wright came back with another solid performance in the 500 Free, as the Bethel swimmer placed third overall with a time of 5:41.62, while her teammate McKinney finished tenth. Smith from Northwestern was 11th.

Blazer finished fourth in the 500 Free boys’ race, swimming a 5:40.20, while his Northwestern teammate Burns was 11th.

Swimming the girls’ 100 Backstroke was Murray for the Arrows, as she finished eighth overall (1:09.91) with fellow Arrow swimmer Arndts finishing 16th and McKinney from Bethel 19th.

Moore (Bethel) had a solid finish in the boys’ 100 Backstroke, swimming to a third place finish with a time of 1:10.86. Tecumseh’s Back was sixth and Wells (Northwestern) was 16th.

The boys’ 100 Breaststroke saw Kennedy from Tecumseh place ninth overall with a 1:20.11 and Kyle Smith from Bethel finished 20th.

Trotwood Invitational- Both Tecumseh and Greenon competed well in the Trotwood swim meet last week, as the Tecumseh won the girls’ team event followed by Greenon second. For the boys’, Greenon won the team title and Tecumseh was fourth. Five teams participated in the meet.
