Tecumseh students Matthew Brown and Tye Ruf were honored at the December 20th meeting of the New Carlisle Rotary Club.

Senior Matthew Brown is ranked first in the Class of 2017. He has a 4.111 GPA with classes in AP Calculus, English, and Government, Honors Physics, and Wind Ensemble. Brown is a member of the cross-country, bowling, and track teams; he has worked on the stage crew for the high school’s spring musical and is the National Honor Society treasurer. In the fall of 2016, Brown was named the Toby Auto Group Scholar Athlete of the Week and has received the Allstate Good Hands Award in both cross-country and bowling. Brown recognized Mr. Dan Vaughn as his most influential teacher and recalled winning the CBC title in bowling three consecutive years as a favorite school memory. After graduation, Brown plans to bowl and major in mechanical engineering at Wright State University. He is the son of Tim and Lori Brown.

Junior Tye Ruf was named Citizen of the Month for December. He is the son of Matthew and Parady Ruf. He has received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence. His future plans include attending Wright State University majoring in pre-med. He was recently inducted into National Honor Society, has been a student worker for two years, plays soccer, and works at Kroger. Ruf also volunteers at the Springfield Y, for his church’s basketball league, and at a local Little League concession stand. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, skateboarding, and playing the guitar. Ruf noted that all of his Tecumseh teachers are helpful and nice and named Mr. McKenny as the most influential. He didn’t recall a specific favorite high school memory but stated that he likes being able to play sports and be in classes with all of his friends. “I just enjoy the whole high school atmosphere,” Ruf said.
