Scott Weber plays his guitar along Main St. in New Carlisle.

Scott Weber is inviting the entire community to join him for a night of free Christmas music and fellowship at New Carlisle’s downtown Christmas tree from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 23.

The gathering will be very informal and, according to Weber, largely unplanned.

“No church is hosting the event. The city isn’t putting it on either. It’s just me inviting people to show up, gather together, sing some Christmas carols (or not sing them!), maybe read some Christmas stories, and simply have fun!” explains Weber.

Weber, a New Carlisle resident, will have his guitar on hand, as well as a fire pit for some warmth. He comments that some residents have said they plan on stopping by to participate, “Someone even said they might be bringing cookies!”

As exciting as the prospect of Christmas cookies may be, Weber is quick to point out that no one has to bring anything to participate in the Christmas gathering, the evening is all about the community getting to know each other.

“This is really just about coming together...People always say, ‘They’ really should fix or do (fill in the blank) sometime.’ Really, though, if we want something to change or see something happen in the community, we really can do it ourselves. We just need to show up. That’s what the (event) is all about—coming together to do something as a community, getting involved, and having fun this season.”

The evening will be a family-friendly and full of Christmas music. People are invited to bring Christmas stories to read aloud too.

Unless the weather is really terrible, Weber plans on being at the Christmas tree at the appointed time. Weber says he can be reached at (937) 679-6367 if anyone has questions.
