It was a successful day on Saturday, as the CBC wrestling tournament took place at Kenton Ridge High School, and several grapplers placed in the top six at the end of the day.

Graham was the team champion with 329.5 points, with their closest competitor being Indian Lake with 133. Tippecanoe placed fifth overall with 120, Tecumseh was sixth at 101.5, Northwestern ninth scoring 74 points, and Greenon was 11th with 28 points.

At 106 pounds, Joe Campbell from Tecumseh placed fourth overall, falling 6-2 to Gaige Reeves of Bellefontaine 6-2 in the third-place match. Also Alyssa Turner from Greenon lost her opening match to Reeves via pin in 50 seconds and was eliminated in her second match by Jourdian Mckeen of Ben Logan in 3:58.

Russell Ramsey from Tippecanoe placed third at 113, with a 2-0 victory over Ryan Whitten of Stebbins in his final match. Ramsey pinned William Bailey of Northwestern in the quarterfinals in 46 seconds before suffering a loss to Jeffrey Thomas from Graham. Ramsey then won in the consolation semis to advance to the third-place match. Bailey then went to the fifth-place match against Zach Yoesting of Bellefontaine, where he lost in 2:49 to place sixth.

Tecumseh’s Hunter Donnen was the highest local placer at 120, as he finished third overall with a 16-0 technical fall victory over Gavyn Grim of Urbana. Donnen won two previous matches to get to that match. Also at that weight class, Northwestern’s JT Grabill lost his opening match to David Hasty of Stebbins in 2:59, and was eliminated by Rio Gonzalez in the third consolation.

Placing fourth at 126 was Greenon’s Trey Blevins. He won his first round match over Hunter Wolf of Indian Lake in 3:02, then defeated Cameron Miley of Urbana 4-2 before falling in the semis. After two more wins, he fell in the third-place match to Miley 5-1. Also at 126, Gavin Sineff of Tecumseh and Ben Boggs of Northwestern failed to advance to the placer round.

At 132, Blake Biteman took home third, with an 18-0 win over Ezra Lee of Urbana, while Northwestern’s Ben Boggs captured fifth with a pin of Dylan Christman in 2:44.

Tommy Rowe from Tecumseh captured fourth at 138, falling to Braeden Lehman of Urbana in the third-place match, and Justo Boggs from Northwestern defeated Trey Henderson of Bellefontaine to capture fifth.

Tipp’s Caleb Blake was the highest local placer at 145, as he defeated Mitch Current of Ben Logan in 2:07 to finish third overall. Justin Berry from Tecumseh finished sixth in that weight class.

Capturing one of only two overall championships among the local teams was 152 pounder Jack Peura from Tippecanoe. The senior opened the day with a 55 second pin over Luis Ramirez of Urbana, then pinned Caleb Young from Tecumseh in 1:45, and advanced to the finals, where he defeated Joey Sanchez from Graham 10-4. Young bounced back from his loss as the Tecumseh grappler placed fourth overall, while Blake Speakman from Northwestern was sixth.

Northwestern’s Jonathan Sirion placed sixth at 160, while at 170, teammate Andrew Reisinger finished third, defeating Boris Pattison of Bellefontaine 5-0 in his final match. Also at that weight class, Mason Pence from Tippecanoe defeated Levi Morrison of Greenon in 1:31 in place sixth.

Weighing in at 182 was Northwestern’s Nathan Billis, as he placed fourth overall, with Greenon’s Joshua Johnson finishing sixth.

Grant Carlson from Tippecanoe finished third at 195, as he punned Cole Mefford of Indian Lake in 2:38 in the third-place match. Also placing in that weight class was Tecumseh’s Brandon Henn who was fifth.

At 220, Shawn Ingle of Northwestern placed fourth with Tipp’s Zac Sorah finishing sixth.

Finally at 285, another local champion was crowned as Logan Ferrell of Tippecanoe pinned Anthony Elhajjmoussa of Stebbins in 2:33 to claim the title. Kyle Holt from Tippecanoe finished fifth at 285.

All of the area wrestling squads now prepare for the sectionals, which begin the week of February 15.
