Last weekend the CBC Swimming championships were held at Wright State, and both Tippecanoe and Tecumseh both finished near the top of the standings. Tipp’s girls placed second, with Tecumseh fourth, Northwestern seventh and Greenon ninth. On the boys’ event, Tipp easily won the championship, while Tecumseh was fifth.

In the 200 Girls Medley, Tipp placed third overall as the team of Sam Williams, Cameron Cahill, Arielle Arnett and Alexis Cook swam a time of 1:59.89, three second behind the team from Bellefontaine. Tecumseh was fifth with a time of 2:07.42 (Michelle Murray, Hannah Peck, Julia Randenburg and Morgan Shaner), and Northwestern was seventh, as the group of Emmy Funderburg, Kimberlee Newland, Cassidy Riley and Mary Stephan-Saunders finished in 2:29.10.

For the boys, Tipp rolled to the win behind Ryan Wall, Jay Bell, Evan Stapp and Ben Jans, as they swam a time of 1:45.08, a new CBC record. Tecumseh was fourth as Logan Back, Alex Kennedy, Owen Measel and Brandon Kennedy swam 2:03.48.

Cook came back for the Red Devils by finishing second in the girls 200 Free with a time of 2:06.48, while Tecumseh’s Peck was fifth, and the Tipp duo of Kayla Bruns was eighth and Emily Doll ninth. Greenon’s Gwen Brittingham was the highest Knight’s finisher as she was 16th overall.

Adam Buynak was second overall in the 200 Free as the Tippecanoe senior swam 2:02.26, while teammate Jans was third, and Tipp’s Mitchell Poynter seventh.

In the girls 200 IM, Tipp’s Arnett placed second as she finished with a time of 2:22.37, with Riley from Northwestern third, and the Tipp duo of Klepinger fifth and Alissa Buynak seventh. The boys 200 IM saw Tipp’s Evan Stapp capture the title with a time of 2:00.07, with Measel from Tecumseh second, Tipp’s Ryan Wall fourth and teammate Raymond Burkey sixth.

It was the freshman Cook storming to a second place finish in the girls 50 Free with a time of 26.49, and Kara Kronour placed eleventh. Tecumseh’s Randenburg finished fourth (26.84).

The boys 50 Free saw Tipp take home third and fourth overall, as Buynak and Mason Doll finished the event strong. Tecumseh’s Kennedy was seventh (26.97) and Brandon Craft of Tecumseh finished 11th.

Radenburg came back strong for the Arrows finishing third in the girls 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:05.04, with Tipp’s Cahill finishing fourth (1:05.46), Buynak seventh (1:15.94) and Victoria Jacobs eleventh.

Nearly breaking the boys 100 Butterfly league record, Stapp won the event with a time of 53.93, less than 0.20 seconds off the record. Teammate Doll placed third for the Red Devils.

The girls 100 Free had Arnett from Tipp finish second (58.62) while Tecumseh’s Peck was third and Michelle Murray sixth. Tipp’s Carsyn Woltz was seventh. Northwestern’s Funderburg was 12th and Greenon’s Brittingham placed 14th.

Tipp’s Bell shattered the league record in the 100 Free, as he swam 48.21, breaking the old record of 49.62. Bell’s teammate Burkey was sixth, while Logan Back from Tecumseh finished 11th and Greenon’s Kenny DePhillip finished 15th.

Williams won the girls 500 Free as the Tipp senior had a time of 5:42.29. Tecumseh’s Shaner was fourth and Tipp’s Bruns sixth. In the boys race, Measel gave Tecumseh a title with a time of 5:03.22, while Tipp’s Matthew Poynter was fourth and Jans fifth.

In the girls 200 Free, the Tipp team of Arnett, Cahill, Cook and Williams was second overall with a time of 1:47.12 which broke the old league record. Tecumseh’s Peck, Murray, Shaner and Randenburg combined for a fourth place finish.

In the boys 200 Free Relay, the Tipp group of Bell, Buynak, Stapp and Ryan Wall broke another league record with a time of 1:33.67. Finishing fourth was Tecumseh and the team of Kennedy, Anton Brehmer, Brandon Craft and Measel, as they swam 1:45.47.

Tipp’s Williams placed third in the girls 100 Backstroke, while Riley (Northwestern) was fifth, Murray (Tecumseh) sixth and Shaner (Tecumseh) seventh. On the boys side, Tipp had two of the top three swimmers, as Wall was second and Walland third. Tecumseh’s Back was fourth.

Placing in the girls 100 Breaststroke was Cahill third, Klepinger fourth, Woltz fifth, Newland from Northwestern 12th, and the Tecumseh duo of Miller (13th) and Lewis (17th). For the boys, Bell nearly set another league record with a first place finish of 1:02.32.

In the final event of the meet, the 400 Free Relay was won by the Tipp boys, as they swam a 3:52.30 (Poynter, Doll, Burkey and Jans), with Tecumseh fifth (Back, Brehmer, Kennedy and Craft. For the girls, Tecumseh was fourth (Kelsey Poling, Miller, Foland and Arndts) while Greenon placed fifth (Rachel Ruff, Heather Fulton, MacKenzie Strang and Brittingham.
