Photo Feb 01 6 24 51 AMThe outcome of the game was no surprise to either coach, and both teams admitted they learned from it. For Tecumseh, it was about gearing up for the post-season tournament which begins next week. For Greenon, it was about the young kids learning from this type of game, to strive to be back at this level in the very near future.

The Arrows used pressure and their typical high-flying scoring attack to defeat Greenon 92-27 on Saturday night, as three players reached double figures. Freshman Presley Griffitts led the charge with 24, freshman Corinne Thomas added 20 and senior Lindsey Nartker scored 19 in the win. Macey Hardy led Greenon with 10 points.

“We used tonight as an opportunity to work on some things,” said Tecumseh coach Danielle Thomas. Gary (Falkenbach, Greenon coach) and I talk a lot and they are trying to make a run at the end of the season.”

“We haven’t an opportunity to work on anything lately because we have had to bring our best to beat our past few opponents. We were rusty on a few things.”

Falknenbach has enjoyed watching the Arrows the last four years, and what they have built during Thomas’ time on the bench.

“I complimented Danielle and Nartker before the game,” Falkenbach said. “As a coach I have been watching the things they do, and they are leaving a legacy and have built a successful program. Everyone thought it was the (Bianca) show, but they have taken it to another level. It was the same thing we did when Allie (Turner) left.”

The first half belonged to Corinne Thomas, as the freshman win connected on four three-point shots en route to a 20 point first half.

“That’s where she is dangerous,” coach Thomas said. “Once she scored in the first half, she had the chance to work on some other things in the second half like her passing and making other things happen.”

Griffitts, who is getting better each game, scored 20 of her 24 in the second half.

“She still needs to get to the rim better,” Thomas said. “That’s actually her strong suit, but we have used her as a forward rather than a point guard she sometimes she settles for the pull-up jumper. We wanted to make more plays inside in the second half.”

Tecumseh led early 32-5 after the opening quarter and never looked back. Thomas opened the game with five points, added three more three’s in the opening quarter and scored 15 points in the first quarter for Tecumseh.

Greenon fought early in the second outscoring the Arrows 8-6 in the first four minutes of the second period, as Hardy hit a three, and Mariah Gossett added five points with a big three to cut the deficit to 38-13, before Tecumseh rolled off a 13-2 run to end the half.

In addition to the three in double figures, Allison Berner added nine for Tecumseh, while Danielle Franklin scored seven. Greenon had two with seven (Gossett and Mackenzi Waddle) behind Hardy.

The regular season comes to an end this week for both teams, as Tecumseh goes to Bellefontaine on Wednesday for their final regular season game, and Greenon hosts Urbana tonight.
