IMG 5312After suffering their first conference loss recently to Shawnee, the Tecumseh boys’ basketball team got back on the winning track last week, as they dominated Graham in a crossover game 72-42. The Arrows used a big first quarter to jump out early, leading 19-8 after the opening period, and they never looked back.

“It was nice to bounce back after Shawnee,” said Tecumseh coach Roger Culbertson. “The kids did a good job with their intensity, and they got the lead and got off to good start right away.”

According to Culbertson, the Arrows ran the floor well and extended the defense full court aiding them in the win.

“We need to keep up the pressure,” he said. “It was a good effort to start, and we were trying to get back to being successful.”

“We played the whole bench, and got more kid involved.”

The Arrows continued to build on their lead, as they went into halftime with a comfortable 36-17 lead over the Falcons. Graham was coached by former Tecumseh girls’ basketball head coach Mike Smart.

Graham battled through the third period, as they put up 16 points in the period, but could not contain the Arrows, as they gave up 24. Heading to the fourth quarter, the Arrows led 60-33.

Tecumseh was led in scoring by Darius Qiusenberry with 23 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Also in double figures was Malik Quisenberry with 19 for the Arrows. Michael Green added seven off the bench, while scoring six each was Rylan Magsaysay and Ross Warren.

With the win, Tecumseh improved to 13-3 overall, and continued to lead the Kenton Trail Division by a game. The season has been solid for the Arrows, and Culbertson knows that things could continue to improve.

“We shot the ball well in the year and were making things happen,” Culbertson said. “We are at a crossroads right now and need to get back to that. We just need four quarters of intensity, We have had good moments, but not a complete game with both offensively and defensively together.”

“The biggest concern is we need to shoot the ball better” The Arrows shot 41 percent against Graham, and struggled shooting 29 percent against Shawnee.

Darius Quisenberry continues to lead the way offensively for the Arrows with a 21.4 average, second in the conference.

“He plays the game well, and handles the ball well,” Culbertson said. “He does a good job getting to the rim. He just has good awareness. If he can become more consistent on the outside shot, it will help his game. He is already hard to guard.”

* Tecumseh also defeated Kenton Ridge 78-60 on Friday, running their record to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in the league. With the Stebbins double-overtime win over Tippecanoe, the Arrows now stretch their lead to two games in the league.

Malik Quisenberry led the Arrows with 30 points, while Darius Quisenberry added 19 and Brody Martin scored 11.
