For the first time in school history, Tecumseh High School has a girls’ golf team. The team includes Lyndsey Back, Estella Bucio, Madison Leiser, Michelle Murray, Morgan Murray, Julia Randenburg and Corinne Thomas. Most of these girls had never swung a golf club until early August, but after some dedicated practice sessions with their coach, Hank Oakes and his assistant, Jack Mecham, they are putting forth a good showing on the course.

Their first outing was an 18-hole league opening match at Cherokee Hills and THS came in 3rd out of the five teams in the CBC Kenton Trails division and 5th overall out of the nine participating schools. Since that time, they have won two other matches and tied one. Their next match is Wednesday, September 6th at Rocky Lakes against Greenon and Mechanicsburg.

The team is considered a “Club team” this year and not a school sponsored varsity sport, so there has been tremendous support by the girls’ parents purchasing uniforms, paying for course time to practice and greens fees for the matches. Parents also are transporting the girls to and from all the events. Next year the coach would like to see even more girls come out for the team and hopefully it can soon become a school sponsored varsity sport.
