Corinne Thomas had quite a week for the Tecumseh girls’ basketball team.

The sophomore guard opened the week with a record-setting performance against one of the state’s top Division Two teams, and came back with another big performance in conference play as the Arrows cruised past Northwestern 91-50 to run their record to 6-1 overall.

Thomas scored 33 points, including 24 in the first half to lead Tecumseh past the Warriors. Presley Griffitts added 20 points, 10 steals and seven assists in the win.

Northwestern came out strong against the Arrows as Abby Zerkle connected on a three to put the host Warriors up early 5-4.

Abbie Grieser also hit a 15-footer with 4:08 left in the first quarter to keep the Warriors close as they trailed 11-9 before the Arrows started to take over.

Thomas hit consecutive three’s and Griffitts added a pair of free throws to push their lead to 19-12 with just over two minutes left in the first period.

While Zerkle tried to keep the Warriors in the game, Thomas scored another three, and Griffitts added a pair of layups in the final 10 seconds of the period, as Tecumseh took a 28-17 lead after the opening eight minutes.

The Arrows lead grew in the opening minutes of the second period, as Griffitts, Thomas and Allison Berner reeled off 11 consecutive points over a span of two minutes, pushing the Tecumseh lead to 39-19 before Zerkle ended the bleeding with a drive to the basket.

Tecumseh took a 53-25 lead at the half and continued to pressure the Warriors leading to the win.

Berner added 10 points for the Arrows, and Makenzie Pauley added nine for the Arrows. Zerkle led the Arrows with 18 points, while Kyndall Berner added 13.

*Also last week, the Arrows gave Carroll all they could handle before falling short to the Patriots 76-68 in a non-conference game in Dayton.

Thomas buried a school-record nine three-pointers for the Arrows, scoring 35 points to keep the Arrows in the game, while Griffitts added 21 points and 10 assists. The Arrows shot nearly 48 percent from the field as a team as they gave the Patriots a game throughout.

The Arrows host Indian Lake tonight before taking a break for the Christmas weekend. They come back next Thursday at Sidney. Northwestern plays at Kenton Ridge tonight, and plays at Troy next Wednesday.
