It didn’t take Presley Griffitts long to establish the tone of the game Saturday night for the Tecumseh girls’ basketball team.

The 5-foot-10 sophomore came out firing on all cylinders with nine points in the first two minutes, and the Arrows built a 14-0 lead early, cruising to an 85-40 win over Urbana as the sophomore duo of Griffitts and Corinne Thomas were too much for the Hillclimbers.

Griffitts led all scorers with 34 points, while Thomas added 22 for the Arrows. Urbana’s Hunter Rogan also scored 22 to lead the Climbers.

“I thought we did a great job and attacking them offensively and hitting shots,” Tecumseh coach Danielle Thomas said. “When they went into their junk defense, we did a good job executing and finding the open player.”

It was a 14 point lead for the Arrows just two minutes into the game, and the Arrows never looked back. Griffitts had a span where she reeled off nine straight, and Thomas bombed in a three to finish their early run.

Urbana senior Hunter Rogan tried to keep the Climbers in the game in the opening quarter with nine points, but Tecumseh maintained the pressure and built a 23-11 lead after the first quarter.

Griffitts scored seven more points in the second to push the Arrows lead to 34-17, and Mackenzie Pauley stepped up and hit a big three toward the end of the half to give the Arrows a 40-19 lead at the break,

Thomas added 15 points in the second half after dealing with foul trouble in the first half to maintain the Arrows lead.

Griffitts finished with 34 points and eight assists, while Thomas added 22 points, 10 steals and seven assists. Pauley scored 11 for the Arrows as well.

“Mackenie will help us score a lot, and Macy Berner has been working hard on the boards for us,” Thomas said, who added that Berner grabbed ten rebounds. “We have kids who are stepping up and owning their roles.”

“If teams are going to play junk defense on Corinne, then Presley should be able to thread anybody. Most teams don’t have enough kids to guard both of them the way they move.”

Tecumseh is back in action tonight at Kenton Ridge, then hosts Shawnee on Saturday and travels to Carroll on Monday.

Tecumseh Boys Basketball- The Tecumseh boys’ team suffered a rough opening loss on Friday, falling at Miamisburg on Friday night 66-31.

Michael Green led the way for the Arrows with 12 points, while Ross Warred added 11 points.

The Vikings held a slim two point lead after the opening period, but the Arrows offense went cold in the second only scoring nine points, as they trailed 32-20 after a half.

Another rough quarter saw the Arrows only score three points in the third period, as the Vikings led 48-23 heading to the fourth period.

Tecumseh is now 0-1 on the season and played at Springfeld last night, then returns to action on Friday hosting Kenton Ridge.
