Sure the final score mattered last week at Greenon High School, but when the Knights and CBC rival Tecumseh Arrows met on Thursday, it was much bigger than a volleyball game.

While it would be the final time the Knights would battle the Arrows in conference play (Greenon is moving to the OHC next season), the night was also about helping others.

Spikes for Tykes was the theme on this evening, in front of a very solid crowd where several gift baskets were raffled off for charity, including a large Columbus Blue Jackets package.

On the court, it was the Arrows who started slow in game one, but turned things up and went on to sweep the Knights 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 to win this crossover battle.

Greenon jumped in front early 3-0 in the opening game as Olivia Hale served Greenon to the quick lead. The Knights continued to build their lead, going in front 7-3 before the Arrows would settle in and take control.

Six consecutive points from Kirsten Nartker brought the Arrows back from trailing by four, to leading 10-7 before a kill from Jillian Boling would break the streak for the Knights.

Greenon kept it close at 12-9, but that is when Tecumseh would take over the game. Six consecutive points, including five in a row from Macy Berner and a huge block at the net from Jillian Williams sent the Arrows out to a 17-9 lead before Hale stopped the bleeding with a play at the net.

The Knights would close the gap to six points late in the game at 23-17 before the Arrows would put them away for the win. Zoey Dysinger had three kills in that game for the Arrows, while Amanda Remmetter added three for the Knights.

Game two saw Tecumseh build the early 5-1 lead behind Mackenzie Drews serves, but Greenon turned the tables and strung together several points from Leah Herdman to actually take a 6-5 lead.

Both teams battled until Tecumseh would build a 13-8 lead, then Dysinger reeled off five consecutive points gave the Arrows a 19-9 lead.

Greenon would not quit but could not cut into their deficit lower than five points the rest of the way as the Arrows earned the win.

Dysinger had four kills in that game for the Arrows and added five points, while Nartker added four points, including three consecutive aces. Greenon picked up four points from Herdman and three from Lydia Henry, while Remmetter added three kills.

Lucy Eier put together six straight points early in game three to give the Arrows a lead they would never give up. Another run later from Berner gave Tecumseh a 15-7 lead.

Eier scored eight points in game three, while Berner added four for the Arrows. Greenon had three points from Remmetter, along with two kills.
