The Arrows have been working hard to prepare for the season opener.

Solid players return for the Tecumseh girls soccer team in 2016, as the team has begun practicing for the start of the new season. Coach Craig Lindsay feels this could be a special year for the Arrows.

“I am looking forward to the season, we have a lot of girls returning,” Lindsey said, as Tecumseh only lost 3 seniors, along with one to injury.

“We will be an experienced team with 10 seniors,” he added. “The girls worked hard in summer and played in a couple of tournaments. They got a lot of experience.”

“The younger girls are mixing in well with the older girls, and they have built the chemistry which hopefully we can build upon.”

The Arrows return several key players, including seniors Morgan Marquette, Rebecca Helt, Natalie Cooper and Alison Berner all on defense, while also back are midfielders Brooke Hoffman, Hailey Beel, and Jade North, along with forwards Allie Roberts and Aliyeh Salhieh.

Returning juniors are midfielders Julia Gibson and Maddie Hall, along with keeper Abby Adams and forward Jasmine Hassell.

Also back is sophomore defender Katlin Fanning.

“The CBC will be competitive on our side with Kenton Ridge, Bellefontaine, Shawnee, Urbana and us all similar,” Lindsey said. “All of us lose key players but have some good players back. There will be some great games in this league.”

Tecumseh travels to Bethel tomorrow for a 7 p.m. scrimmage, and hosts Mechanicsburg next Tuesday in a 6 p.m. scrimmage.

Tecumseh Boys Soccer- Coach Jason Runner is hoping that his relatively inexperienced soccer team at Tecumseh will bond together and not only show leadership this year, but also challenge for the CBC title in 2016.

“We have four seniors, nine juniors and four sophomores, and we still have a lot of inexperience,” Runner said. “A lot of those kids have seen limited time last year. They have been working on the defensive aspect of the game now and controlling the ball. We lost some skilled players, and are needing some of the kids to step up for leadership roles this year.”

Four seniors to provide leadership are Eddie Martinez, who will play forward and outside mid, along with Brandon Thomas (center mid), Hector Rosas (center mid/forward) and Alex Sieman who will play forward and outside mid.

Juniors on the squad include Alex Arevalos (forward), Mitchell Foland (forward/midfielder), Kevin Alvarado (forward), Gerardo Ruiz (outside mid), Cole Conner (sweeper), Alex Kennedy (sweeper/marking back), Brandon Kennedy (marking back/outside mid), Caleb Rose (forward/sweeper), and the Arrows keeper Nathan Edmonds.

Kenyon Runner (center mid) returns to lead the sophomore class for the Arrows, and will be joined by classmates Enrique Ruiz (stopper/center mid), Eduardo Alvarado (marking back) and Ronnie Boling (marking back).

With Tippecanoe now in the GWOC, the Arrows look for a balanced league attack this year, with all of the teams chasing Kenton Ridge for the title.

“They are probably the team to beat,” Runner said. “All the rest of us are even right across the board. The league will be pretty even this year.”

Tecumseh will scrimmage tomorrow night at Tippecanoe at 7 p.m., and will open the season at home against Carroll on August 23.
