Ed. Note: This news of Darius Quisenberry’s transfer came into the New Carlisle News on Tuesday morning, after the newspaper went to print. The News sat down with Quisenberry after the news broke to talk about his decision to transfer to Wayne High School.

It was a tough decision, but one that Darius Quisenberry and his family felt was the right one to make.

After two years of leading the Tecumseh basketball team to success near the top of the Central Buckeye Conference, Quisenberry will be playing his final two years at Wayne High School, after his family decided to transfer to the Huber Heights school after his mother Andrea took a job in the district. Quisenberry will sit out the OHSAA mandatory transfer penalty of ten games before being eligible to join the Warriors program.

Wayne’s teachers’ contract allows them to enroll their children in the school if they choose if they work in the district, which the Quisenberry’s did early this week when she took the job.

“Andrea got the job offer and we sat down as a family and looked at our family household financially,” said Richard Quisenberry, who will begin to put their oldest son Malik through college starting this fall. “Once she got the offer to interview, that opened up the door to bring Darius there also.”

Quiseberry also knows that even though Andrea will be teaching over there, the long term benefits if playing at Wayne would benefit him trying to reach his goals of taking his game to the next level.

“The community at Tecumseh has been great with all out our kids, and we have a lot of good friends in the community,” Richard said. “However we also have to look at his future and what he wants to achieve with his goals, just finding the best situation for him.”

“It’s not that something was done wrong at Tecumseh, because it wasn’t,” Richard Quisenberry stated. “The goal was to keep pushing him and elevating his game. We sat down with Roger (Culbertson, Tecumseh’s coach) and Craig (Eier, Tecumseh AD), and what we talked about the most was the schedule. With the Division One teams no longer being on the schedule, that was one of the biggest factors to look at the schedule and looking at the competition.”

While stating there was no negatives about Tecumseh’s program, Quisenberry stated that playing the stronger competition would be a major factor in his son’s development.

“It is the level of competition that will help him achieve his goals,” he stated.

Darius also commented that while he will miss his friends at Tecumseh and playing with the Arrows, he feels the right decision has been made.

“To go against better players every day will make me better,” Darius Quisenberry said. “There are a lot of different opportunities at Wayne for me.”

“I had a great two years at Tecumseh, and I think my friends here know this is best for me, and they are happy for me. There are no hard feelings but sometimes you have to do what’s best for you in life.”

Quisenberry has been offered by Akron and Wright State so far, and he expects to make a decision after going through the process of deciding what is right for him.
