Troy opened the tennis season last week with a 3-2 victory over Fairmont, as both doubles teams were victorious for the Trojans, along with their third singles player.

At first singles, Troy’s Shane Essick lost to Murad Mawaz 6-0, 6-2 while Elijah Sadler for Troy fell shot at second doubles, as he lost to Daniel Bendel 6-4, 6-0.

The rest of the match belonged to the Trojans. At third singles, Matt Schmitt earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Nick Fantari to get the Trojans on the board.

Needing both doubles matches to get the win, Troy delivered.

At first doubles, Troy’s Andrew Magoteaux and Nick Pruis defeated Jake Haas and Nute Powers 6-1, 6-1 and in the game-deciding match, the Troy second doubles team of Jack Johnston and Anoop Patel was victorious over Matt MacNealy and Aidan Robillard 6-2, 6-3.

*Tecumseh- The Arrows opened their season with a 3-2 victory over Greeneview. At first singles, Allen Eben defeated Josh Jenkins 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, while the Arrows also won at second singles as Michael Green defeated Evan Rinehart 6-2, 6-1.

The Arrows also won at first doubles as Will Sims and Tyler Adams was victorious over Marcus Gollmer and Will Irvin 6-0, 7-5.

Falling short at third singles was Tecumseh’s Sam Mulkey who lost 6-1, 6-2, and at second doubles, Ben Guisinger and Caleb Linder lost 6-2, 6-3.

*Troy came back last week with a big road win at Tecumseh, knocking off the defending CBC champions 4-1 to remain unbeaten on the young season. It was the first loss of the year for the Arrows.

At first singles, Essick earned an easy win against Green, who moved up to number one singles. The Trojans number one was victorious 6-1, 6-1.

Sadler had an identical score against Christian Hunt, as Troy took the number two singles spot 6-1, 6-1. At third singles, Schmitt knocked off Linder 6-0, 6-0 to sweep the three singles matches.

In the first doubles match, the Troy team of Magoteaux and Pruis won the opening set 6-4 against Tecumseh’s Sims and Eben, then took the second set 7-5 with a super tiebreaker 10-5. The Trojans finished off the sweep of Tecumseh at second doubles with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) as Johnston and Patel defeated Adams and Mulkey.

*Greenon was victorious last week against London 5-0 in a non-league match.

Riley Farrell won his first singles match 8-3, while Brady Whittaker was also victorious at second singles 8-6. Michael Deering captured the third singles match by forfeit.

At first doubles, Ryan McNeil and Owen Leathley won their match 8-2, while it was another forfeit at second doubles for Cole McNeil and Colin Campbell.
