With playoff stakes on the line, the Ohio Crush defeated the Mt. Vernon Militia 41-6 on Saturday afternoon.

The last time the Crush played the Militia, the Crush shutout the Militia 58-0 on June 26th.

Crush head coach Tony Martin speaks on his teams win and overall performance.

“As far as our coaches and me we wanted to come out and perform like a championship caliber team,” said Martin. “Obviously, it’s win or go home and you look to build some momentum like we did in the second half, so when have to come out next week and continue to get better.”

In the first quarter, the Crush began to start out strong on both side of the ball.

Three minutes into the first quarter, Crush quarterback Jon Mason connects with tight end Lamar Taborn for the score, giving the Crush a 6-0 lead.

On the Militia’s first drive of the game, Crush safety Josh Brown records an interception that led to another Mason and Taborn touchdown.

That put the score at 14-0.

Then on the next Militia offensive possession, Crush cornerback Donnie Taylor gets a pick-six and the Crush closes the first quarter with a 21-0 lead.

Going into the second quarter, the Crush did not look the same as they did first quarter and began to struggle as miscues on offense and defense plagued them.

Coach Martin spoke on his team’s poor play.

“We came out sluggish and we just didn’t come out with that swagger that we’re used to doing,” said Martin.

The Crush gave up two fumbles and a Mason interception which led to a Militia score.

The Crush went into halftime with a 21-6 lead over the Militia.

In the third quarter, the Crush were back in form as they recovered a Militia fumble.

Crush running back gave the team a spark with his running scoring from inside the 10 yard line.

The Crush goes up 28-6 with 7:46 in the third quarter.
Later, the Crush scores another touchdown from their other running back Trammell Hayes from the one yard line.

Crush take a commanding 34-6 lead with a minute left in the third quarter.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Crush were just adding points to the scoreboard.

Late in the fourth, the Crush receiver Shaquille Passmore catches a deflected pass off his teammate for a 20-yard touchdown.

The Crush goes on to win 41-6 and advances to the next round of the OFL.

Quarterback Jon Mason completed 11 of 20 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Lamar Taborn led the Crush in receiving with four catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns, while Shaquille Passmore had one catch for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Justin Huff led all rushers with nine carries for 70 yards and a touchdown and Trammell Hayes with six rushes for 25 yards and a touchdown.

The Crush defensive came up huge with five turnovers on the day.

The Crush goes into the next playoffs game 12-0 and will face the winner of the Jackson County Patriots and the Zanesville Jets.

The game is scheduled for Saturday August 13th at Raynor Park. Kickoff begins at 4pm.
