The Ohio Crush defeated the Columbus War Eagles 62-20 in their final regular season football game on Saturday.

James Ross set the tone early when he recorded a sack on the second play of the game.The Crush took an early 1st quarter lead 14-0 on a 20 yard pass to Vance Taylor and a 37 yard punt return by Robert Redd. The War Eagles cut the lead to 14-6 in the 2nd quarter on a 46 yard pass. The Crush responded on their next possession when Jon Mason hit Vance Taylor again with a 17 yard touchdown to make it 20-6. The Crush extended their lead to 28-6 when Mason fired a 46 yard touchdown to Lamar Taborn on the last play of the 1st half.

The Crush blew the game wide open in the 3rd quarter. Two touchdowns by Redd on a 22 yard interception and a 63 yard punt return, a 3 yard fumble return by Tony Bridges and a 4 yard run by Justin Huff made it 55-6 entering the 4th quarter. A 28 yard pass for a touchdown early in the 4th quarter made it 55-12 but again the Crush responded with a 5 yard run by Redd to make it 62-12. A late 34 yard run by the War Eagles made the final score 62-20.

Mason was 10 for 12 passing for 219 yards and 3 touchdowns. Taborn had 4 catches for 101 yards while Huff led all rushers with 32 yards on 4 carries. Dalton Rothwell and Justin Boldman led the defense with 6 and 5 tackles. Caleb Moore and Keith Brickles added 3 each.

“This was a great way to wrap up the regular season and get ready for the playoffs,” said head coach Tony Martin. “We were able to give everyone significant playing time and we came out of the game with no serious injuries. Having next week off will allow guys with minor aches and pains to heal up a bit before we start the drive towards a championship.”

The Crush finished the regular season 11-0 and begin the Ohio Football League Playoffs on August 6th when they host the Mount Vernon Militia at Raynor Park. Game time is 4:00 PM.
