What a difference three minutes can make.

Northwestern came out strong against a much stronger opening game opponent last Friday, as they played Franklin Monroe in the first game of the Arcanum Tip Off Tournament, only trailing the Jets 6-2 and battling the team loaded with talented sophomores.

Then over the next three minutes, Franklin Monroe flexed their muscle and sprinted out to a 19-2 lead all but ending the speculation as they knocked off the Warriors in front a great crowd in Darke County.

When the dust settled, the Warriors fell short 59-20 to send the Warriors down to an opening game defeat.

Miranda Gillman led the way for the Warriors with a team-high nine points including a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first quarter. Audrey Nourse and Kyndall Berner each added four points in the loss. Corina Conley led everyone with 14 points for Franklin Monroe.

The early part of the game, both teams were trying to establish the tempo as the Jets held the early 6-2 lead as Bella Cable scored all six out of the gate for FM. All her points came on taking the advantage of their plan to utilize an uptempo style of offense.

The Jets them turned up their offense and reeled off 13 consecutive points, and Northwestern trailed 19-2 before Nourse could hit a floater in the paint to end the bleeding with 1:08 left in the opening period.

Gillman then hit the three for the Warriors to end the quarter, as the Warriors tried to stay close, trailing 23-7 after the opening period.

The Jets then continued to build their lead, scoring the first 11 points of the second period to put the game out of reach, leading 34-7. Northwestern could only muster a layup from Gillman as their lone points in the second quarter, as they went into the half trailing 41-9.

*The Warriors dropped into the consolation bracket on Saturday night where they lost to Brookville 40-30 in a game that snapped a 23-game losing streak for the Blue Devils. Emily Mason scored 12 points to lead Brookville, while Gillman led the Warriors with 10 points.

Northwestern is back in action December 6 hosting Bellefontaine.
