The New Carlisle Public Library welcomed the new director Bryan Howard to the library on October 12, 2015. Howard grew up in London Ohio and starting working at the London Public Library at age 14. The London Director, at that time, saw Howard in the library every day and asked him if he wanted a job. Howard jumped at the opportunity.

Howard, while working full-time, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Capital University in 2004 in Business Management. He earned his Masters in Library Science from Kent State University in 2008.

In 2010, he took the position as Manager of Adult Services in the London Public Library and was working as the Library Services Manager immediately before coming to New Carlisle Public. He also worked as a Deputy Fiscal Officer for the London Library.

Howard is married with two daughters, a 7-year old and a 2 1/2 year old. He still lives in London, Ohio. Howard said, “I’ve always liked small communities. You can have closer relationships among the library staff, public, and patrons that you can’t get in a large metropolitan area. I have fallen in love with this community.”

He hopes to build and expand new relationships within the community and explore ways the library can fill unmet needs within the community.

He plans to introduce more outreach programs and increase the number of computer classes. In addition, he would like to focus on acquiring new materials for the library including more movies, DVDs, and fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books. His goal is to update all of the library’s collection.

He believes that the library should provide excellent customer services and catering to the patrons is the library’s number one priority.

Stop by the library and check out the ways the New Carlisle Public Library is working to meet the community’s needs and give a warm welcome to Bryan Howard.
