After earning a big one point win recently, Bethel girls’ basketball coach Mark Mays stated it was about the same time last year that the Bees earned a close win, which helped propel them to a better ending to the season.

Coming off of a tough loss at Ponitz last week, the Bethel girls’ basketball team wanted to get back on track on Saturday hosting Ansonia, trying to get a league victory.

Every team in the area had to deal with an altered schedule last week due to the holidays, but for the Bethel boys’ basketball team, they just kept their solid season going.

It was business as usual last week for the Bethel boys’ basketball team, as the Bees remained perfect in the Cross Country Conference with a pair of conference wins against Bradford and Arcanum.

Bethel was hoping to get to the Christmas weekend with a win over the Newton Indians last week, but the Indians pulled away in the fourth quarter, opening up a three point lead and defeated the Bees 53-40 in Cross County Conference girls’ basketball action last Thursday.

When the season began, the Bethel boys’ basketball team created goals they want to reach this year.

Just like the Bethel girls’ basketball team, the Franklin Monroe squad is looking to turn their program around.

The juggernaut knows as the Bethel Bees offense continued to impress in the early season, as the host Bees crushed Northeastern 87-52 last week in a non-conference basketball game.

As the teams exited the floor at halftime, Bethel coach Mark Mays and his squad could feel the momentum.

Bethel junior Caleb South scored his 1,000th career point to lead the Bees’ boys’ basketball team to an easy 61-37 win over Ansonia on Friday night.

After going to the district finals last season, expectations are high for success this winter at Bethel High School, as the Bees are not only looking to capture a prestigious Cross County Conference title, but much more hardware in the post season.

They reached their goal last year of double digit victories, and now the Bethel Bees girls’ basketball team is ready to gear up for another big season.
