As the summer reaches the halfway point, one thing is for sure. If you are looking for Bethel junior Jacob Evans, you will likely need to focus your attention on either the football field, or the weight room. That is where you will find the Bees quarterback, as he focuses on becoming a bigger leader for the Bethel football team, and striving to become a quarterback at the next level.

“I am in the weight room as much as possible, either with my team, or with my trainer Andre Cokes,” Evans said. “These last two summers have been filled with football camps all over the state.”

“I have worked with two different quarterback coaches. In my eighth grade and freshman year, I worked out with Mike Schneider from Northmont,” he added. “These past two years, I have worked with Mike Fisher, leader of Triton Quarterback Academy.”

Evans had a good season last year, but knows he has to work on several things to become a player to play at the next level.

“I need to work on my size and speed, and I have a lot of work to do in the weight room to be the best I can be,” he said. “I also need to work on my vision of the field when I’m in the pocket. I can always work on footwork. I think any quarterback would say that.”

While Evans also enjoys playing basketball with the Bees, his true love is Friday nights in the fall.

“My favorite sport is football, and my most memorable highlight is the game against Twin Valley South,” he said. “We played a very bad first half and got ourselves behind and had to fight back. We won 22-21 on a late field goal, and I got to witness my fullback Josh Willis surpass 1,000 rushing yards on the season.”

“I began playing both sports just because I grew up watching them with my dad so when I was old enough to play I couldn’t wait,” Evans added. “My dad was a big influence into the sports that I played, he played the same sports I do.”

As he heads into the football season, Evans isn’t concerned about individual awards despite earning first-team all-conference. All he wants to do is help focus on helping his team win.

“I believe my team is going to be good this year,” he said. “We had a strong year last year and have almost everyone coming back. I am really excited for the season.”

In addition to the gridiron, Evans also is on the Bethel student council and is the junior class President. He is also heavily involved in Prom Committee and is hoping to get into the National Honor Society this year.

He is also part of a leadership program, and plans to either attend college to major in engineering or the medical field. Another option he has it to join the United States Air Force.
