Girls Teams Ready For Tournament, Berner Scores 1,000

Both of the girls’ basketball teams from Tecumseh and Northwestern begin tournament play this weekend, as the sectional tournament gets underway.

Tecumseh finished the regular season last week with a 77-25 win over Bellefontaine. Danielle Franklin led the way with 26 points and seven assists, while Corinne Thomas added 21 points and six steals. Presley Griffitts contributed 12 points, while Lindsey Nartker scored nine.

The Arrows led 20-2 after one period, and 44-9 at halftime.

*Northwestern defeated Northeastern 57-50 as Korynne Berner led with 24 points while Abby Zerkle added 21.

On Thursday, the Warriors lost a crucial game for the CBC title, as they fell to Ben Logan 47-43. With the win, Ben Logan finishes 10-0 in the Mad River Division while Northwestern was 8-2 and finishes second.

Berner again led with 17, while Jenna Robbins added 12.

Finally on Saturday, the Warriors wrap up the regular season with a 46-38 loss to Miami East. In the loss, Berner scored her 1,000th career point, and finished with 16. Also Abby Zerkle added 11.

*Tecumseh opens tournament play Saturday against Xenia at 2 p.m. at Troy High School. Northwestern battles Dixie on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Franklin Monroe.

Bowling - Tecumseh defeated Bellefontaine 2775-2418 in boys’ action. Matt Brown led with 279-204, Zach Helm 212-235, Caleb Collins 202-216, Dylan Terrell 173-197 and Jay Woosley 164-168.

Also in boys’ bowling, Northwestern defeated Ben Logan 2547-1652. JT Campbell led Northwestern with 205-211, Austin Sweet had 173-191, Cody North 194-164, Ethan Kaffenbarger 156-171 and Matt Parrett 173.

*On the girls’ side, Tecumseh lost to Bellefontaine 2320-2217, as Alyson Frock led the Arrows with 146-170, Kaley Thompson 159-156, Jennifer Dilley 146-156, Katie Stamper 150-147, Jessica Perkins 136 and Adrienne Lutz 131.

Northwestern defeated Ben Logan 2442-1996. Elizabeth Sakaitis rolled a 230-139 to lead the Warriors, followed by Kristen Williams 188-180, Danielle Berthold 170-190, Ashley Garrett and Dana Coyle each with 178 and Hannah Holt-Grimm 148.
