Tecumseh Girls Basketball

Nartker Scores 1,000th Career Point

Arrows junior Lindsay Nartker scored her 1,000th career point on Saturday night, as Tecumseh defeated Shawnee 60-47 in a CBC contest.

Nartker led the way for the Arrows with 31 points in the victory, while Danielle Franklin added 10 and Caroline Smith scored six.

“We came out took a 10 point lead, we stuck with the game plan,” said Tecumseh coach Danielle Thomas. “We took advantage of the height advantage. “

Danielle Franklin added seven assists and nine rebounds, while Nartker grabbed 14 boards and was 12/16 from the field.

With the win, the Arrows sit 9-3 on the season, and had a late game Monday night after deadline at the Classic in the Country against the host Berlin Hiland squad. A complete recap of that game will be in next week’s edition of the News.

Bethel Girls Basketball

Bees Struggle Against the Three

Jillian Callaham and Swisher each scored seven points for the Bethel Bees girls’ basketball team, but it wasn’t enough as the Bees fell short to the Covington Buccs 55-32 last week in a Cross County Conference game at the Hive.

Bethel watched as Buccs standout Jessie Crowell scored a game high 23 points, as the high scoring guard hit a variety of shots from driving buckets to long range threes.

“We got beat by three-pointer, they had eight of them,” said Bethel coach Mark Mays. “We are getting better defending the two point shot, but still struggling defending the three.”

Bethel trailed 26-10 at the half and could never get the offense going.

Saturday against Riverside, the Bees again saw improvements but could not get over the hump, falling to the Pirates 44-40.

“Scoring 40 for us was a good change,” Mays said. It was the first game for Troy Christian transfer Carrie Smith, who scored 10 points for the Bees, while Becky Schweiterman led with 12.

“Carrie will have a big presence inside for us, she is quick, strong and can rebound,” Mays said. “As a sophomore she can really help us, and will do a nice job with Becky together in the paint.”
