Arrows Split Games, Induct Three To HOF

Tecumseh’s boys’ basketball team split a pair of games last week, including a thrilling 74-73 overtime win at Indian Lake.

After taking a 21-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lakers fought back to cut their halftime deficit to one. The game was close throughout as two players scored in double figures for the Arrows.

Clay Mastin led Tecumseh with 25 points and seven assists, while Reid Hale added 22 including four three’s. Ross Warren added eight points for the Arrows, along with 10 rebounds, while Drew Sarihan contributed seven.

On Friday night, the Arrows fell to Bellefontaine with a rough offensive first half, as they were held to 10 points, falling to the Chiefs 45-30 as the Arrows inducted three former athletes into their Hall of Fame.

Added to the Arrows Hall of Fame is the 2016 class consisting of Rusty Lane, Missy Martin and Chris Roberts.

Sarihan led the way for the Arrows with nine points, while Mastin added eight and Hale scored six.

Tecumseh Bowling

Tecumseh defeated Indian Lake 2625-2136 in boys’ bowling last week. Scoring for Tecumseh was Al Woosley 184-219, Jay Woosley 170-269, Allen Ward 136-157, Dylan Terrell 181-155, Matt Brown 246-197. In the girls match, the Arrows also defeated the Lakers 2248-1621. Alaina Collins rolled a 178-166 for the Arrows, while Anna Ryman had 226-151, Maddie Dusko 163-124, Adrienna Lutz 148-168, Kristen Means 111 and Emma Wurts 160.

Tecumseh defeated Greenon 2791-2058 in another boys’ match. Matt Brown led the Arrows with 237-235, Dylan Terrell 215-224, Jay Woosley 201-161, Allen Ward 160-191, Leo Williams 184-190. For Greenon, they were led by Andrew Haulman 147-212, Matthew Barton 149-125, Frankie Gmuca 137-145, Josh Cunningham 164-122, Joe Springer 119, Nick Hoalman 152.

In the girls’ match, Tecumseh was victorious 2037-1987. Alaina Collins bowled a 158-152 to lead the Arrows, along with Emma Wurts 128-92, Anna Ryman 143-148, Adrienne Lutz 148-140, and Maddie Dusko 134-125. For Greenon, Hailey Webb finished with 176-174, Ella Sermersheim 150-167, Sierra Davis 132-149, Cheyenne Cook 118, Emily Kahlert 114, Haven Davis 143.

Northwestern Basketball

The Warriors boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten in CBC play with a pair of wins last week. Northwestern opened the week with a thrilling 56-54 win over Kenton Ridge in a game that was close throughout. Kurt Waters led the way for the Warriors with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Evan Noffke and Ryan Cleland each added 11 in the win.

“Our kids kind of looked past Kenton Ridge a little bit and didn’t come to play,” Northwestern coach Gerald Embry said. “We got it done in the end. We were up eight in the fourth quarter before they came back to tie the game Noffke hit a layup with eight seconds left to preserve the win.”

On Friday night, the Warriors survived a tough battle against Indian Lake 77-71.

“We knew it would be a tough game up there, they have five guys who all can shoot the three. Our kids were ready to play and extend our lead to three games. The kids came ready to play.”

Noffke led with 27 including five three’s, Waters added 16 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four blocks, Derek Whipp added 12, Cleland 10.

The Northwestern girls lost to Springfield last week 45-43 despite 27 points from Abby Zerkle in the loss.
