G Soccer Tecumseh VS Stebbins 0930 006

After a scoreless first half, Tecumseh coach Craig Lindsey knew something had to change.

After making some changes during the intermission, the Arrows came out and scored twice in the final 40 minutes, and it was good enough for a 2-0 CBC victory over Stebbins in a girls’ soccer game last week at Spitzer Stadium.

“We made some tactical changes at halftime, and preached to them to make their runs before passing the ball,” Lindsey said. “Also we made a formation change, and it showed dividends right away,”

The first ten minutes of the game saw the two teams battle back and forth, trying to establish possession.

“It was a sloppy first half but we gained control of the game,” Lindsey said. “We kept pressuring them. Our defense eliminated the passes and we won more of the 50/50 balls, which is something we stressed. We wanted to improve after that Monday loss.”

Finally at the midway point of the second half, Hannah Marquette scored the first goal for the Arrows, after the ball was knocked around, the ball went to her at center mid, and Marquette ripped a 30-yard shot that found the net.

Kinley Berner made It 2-0 with 12 minutes left in the game. Tecumseh outshot the Indians 24-2.

“Our defense played a lot of different girls, and they played well in the first half,” Lindsey said. “Our sweeper didn’t have to do much work thanks to the fullbacks.”

Also last week, the Lady Arrows lost to Shawnee 1-0.

“That was a hard fought game,” Lindsey said. “It was 0-0 at halftime and we had a letdown on defense and weren’t able to capitalize on our chances we had.”

Tecumseh is not 7-3-1 overall on the season.

Tecumseh Boys Soccer- Tecumseh’s boys soccer team also play Stebbins in a league game, and they tied the Indians 3-3.

The Arrows trailed 1-0 at the half, and quickly fell behind 2-0 before their offense came to life. Cole Conner scored at the 21:00 mark when Noah Brown assisted him on the inbounds play. After the Indians scored again to make it 3-1, it was the Arrows to fight back for the tie.

“We were already once we relaxed,” Tecumseh coach Jason Runner said. “We were getting out shots and it was just a matter of time before we put something away. We never gave up with this young group.”

With 8:05 left in the game, Caleb Scaggs scored for the Arrows on the assist from Anton Brehmer on a ricochet shot. Three minutes later, Alex Arevalos scored the tying goal with the assist from Tyler Adams.

“We had them on their heels at times,” Runner said. “We had some good shots and they had a couple of breakaways on us, but our keeper had some good saves.”

“We have to learn to finish, we are learning the mental aspects of the game smoother on our play and learn how to change our pace.”
