Take a break from the frenzy of holiday shopping and parties to slow down and enjoy a program at New Carlisle Public Library during November and December.

Two book clubs featuring two different genres will meet to discuss the current selection. The Mystery Book Club meets on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm to discus they mystery thriller Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. Cuckoo’s Calling is a crime novel by J. K. Rowling, published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. In this mystery novel, Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel’s suicide. Strike lost his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, and is now making a living as a private investigator. Down on his luck, Strike has broken up with his girlfriend and only has one client, when John Bristow arrives. Lula Landry, Bristow’s sister and a supermodel fell to her death. The police ruled it a suicide; however, Bristow’s doesn’t believe it and wants Strike to investigate.

The Reader’s Choice Book Club meets on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 4pm to 5pm to discuss The Duchess by Jude Deveraux. The Duchess features Claire Willoughby who risks losing her inheritance if, she doesn’t marry Harry Montgomery, the eleventh Duke of MacArran.

Willoughby travels with her family to meet the Montgomery clan in Scotland. The Montgomery estate house, Bramley Castle, is damp, cold place, filled with eccentric relatives. Willoughby meets Trevelyan and is captivated by the reserved, brooding man.

If the outdoors is more appealing, Connie Kersdyc, Master Gardner, will offer a Master Gardeners Workshop on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm. At this meeting, the group will discuss the possibility of setting up a Community Garden. In addition, the group will brainstorm ideas for future workshops.

On Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm, Beverly Milner will lead a workshop on Treasure Mapping. Treasure Mapping uses visualization to attain your goals. Participants will make their own map as a guide for what they want out of this life. Participants should bring poster board, scissors, glue stick, pens/pencils, and magazines. The items will be used to create a collage on which to focus desires and creativity.

Several regular programs designed to support health and nutrition are being offered. On the second Wednesday of every month, the library offers a session for Diabetes Support. The group discusses the challenges of being diabetic, shares recipes, features guest speakers, and shares fast and easy meals and snacks. The next meeting is scheduled for December 9, 2015 from 3pm to 4pm.

In addition, the Ohio State University Extension Office offers an ongoing course, Eat Smart Stay Active, every Wednesday from 3:30pm to 4:30 pm to teach participants how to eat healthy and save money on grocery bills. Recipes are also shared at most workshops.

To create a unique gift for a child, the library will offer a workshop, Craft a Book for Christmas, on Saturday, Dec 12, 2015 from 10am to 12pm. In this workshop, participants will make a unique wordless book for that child on their list who deserves something special.

Other regularly scheduled programs include a Writer’s Group that meets every Thursday from 3pm to 4pm, to support, share, and provide feedback to aspiring writers. In addition, the Quilting Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 12:30 pm to 3pm to share and support quilting projects.

The library will be closed on Thursday, November 26, 2015 for Thanksgiving. In addition, it will be closed on December 25, 2015 for Christmas and January 1, 2016 for New Years.
