City Council Members and City Management informed citizens of the progress the city has made over the past year and more at the annual Town Hall meeting on Monday evening.

“2017 was a unique year for the City of New Carlisle,” said City Manager Randy Bridge. “The city is progressing at a rate that this city has not seen in years.”

Bridge enumerated many of the improvements the city has made the past year.

“The city is repairing streets at a rate never seen before”

“I am confident that we are on the verge of receiving the city’s first ever Clean Audit award”

“In just three years, the city has seen its General Fund increase from $169,000 to $829,667.”

“We were the first in Clark County to pass legislation enforcing a smoke-free corridor around our playground equipment, open air shelters, bleachers and other commonly-used public spaces.” This has also cut down dramatically on the volume of smoking-related litter in these areas.

“Our citizens graciously and overwhelmingly defeated Issue 4, the income tax credit that would have had a devastating impact on city operatios.”

“The swimming pool had a banner year in 2017, and 2018 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet.” He added that this year the pool will be hosting swim meets “that will surely bring new faces and revenue.”

The city refinanced three bonds that resulted in lower interest rates and a savings of over $116,000 to the city.

The City’s bond rating has been increased to BBB+, allowing for lower interest rates.

The City will be saving over $11,000 this year by switching dispatching for the Fire Department to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Bridge concluded his presentation by stating, “We will continue to seek new improvements to better improve the quality of life for the residents and business owners of this progressive, diversive, engaged city of New Carlisle.”

Bridge thanked his senior management and all city employees for the progress made in 2017.

Mayor Ethan Reynolds said that the city will have a fireworks display to bring pride back to the community. He also said that the city will be buying a new police cruiser without a loan and that the city will be spending about $200,000 repairing more streets.

The Town Hall meeting was adjourned early because one of the council members was suffering from some health issues and will be continued at the March 19 City Council meeting.
