The city expects to be able to open W. Jefferson St. on Monday, February 5, at 6:00 p.m.

According to New Carlisle Public Works Director Howard Kitko, the owners of the grain elevator are removing the corn from the property.

There was also an issue with an attachment to the concrete silos. “As they take more corn out, it keeps slipping down,” said Kitko. A concrete structural expert is on the scene.

Several AT&T customers in that area have been without phone service since the grain bin collapsed on January 21. Repair crews had to wait until enough corn had been removed form the side of the road to replace poles and cables.

“Once the spilled material was removed we were able to place new poles, string cables and are now splicing those cables to restore service,” said Holly Hollingsworth, Lead Public Relations Manager for AT&T. “We expect to complete the work this week.”
