Three people suffered non-life threatening injuries from a two-car crash at Routes 40 and 571 Sunday afternoon.

According to witnesses, a Ford Escort was westbound on Rt. 40 at an apparent high rate of speed, suddenly turned right onto Rt. 571 but failed to make the turn. It smashed into a GMC Sonoma that was waiting for the light to change.

Witnesses said the driver of the Escort was heard stating that her brakes had failed.

The driver of the Sonoma was complaining of chest pain and was transported to SOIN Medical Center. She was the only occupant of her vehicle.

The occupants of the Escort were transported for evaluation. The driver had a knee injury and the passenger was bleeding from his nose.

“The girl in the car was flying,” a witness told us. “There wasn’t anything the girl in the truck could do.”

The incident is under investigation by the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Patrol.

Bethel Twp. Fire personnel received assistance from New Carlisle and Bethel Miami.
