The 1952 graduating class of Tecumseh H. S. held their 65th reunion with a full week-end of activities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 8, 9 and 10.

Twenty-0ne of the forty-two living members of the class, along with eleven spouses, family and/ or friends, and four guests attended all or some part of the various activities taking place. The celebration started with a “Welcome Back” catered meal from Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken in the Community Room at the Lake Avenue Retirement Center on West Lake Ave. on Friday evening.

The class met for dinner on Saturday evening in the Carl and Edyth Lindner Community Center on the campus of the Springfield Masonic Community. The room and tables were beautifully decorated in red and black Tecumseh colors, compliments of Donna Mabin and her daughter, in honor of her husband Roger Mabin. The weekend festivities concluded with brunch at the Golden Corral in Springfield, followed by a tour of the Gale Halderman (Designer) Ford Mustang Museum in Brandt on Sunday afternoon.

Those class members and their spouses attending included Bill and Dee Berry, Wayne and Carol Poindexter Crist, Donald Fisher, Jack and Donna Chapman Musser, Roger and Liz McJilton, Charles and Marcia Shellabarger Nessle, Lamar and Carolyn Rader, Lois Goughnour Sizemore, Arthena Brosey Cook, Donald and Eleanor Wolfe, Ken and Mary Ann Luke Stogsdill, Betty Anne Lane Patton, Gladys Dailey Trainer, Miles and Bonnie Shafer, Bob and Gwen Wilson, Shirley Race Downing, Charles Richter, Bob and Marilyn Brodbeck Suydam, Evelyn Wiles Marshall, and Donna Mabin, the widow of deceased member Roger Mabin.

A “Litany of Remembrance” of our eleven-fallen brother and sister classmates, along with spouses and/ or significant other, who have passed since our last reunion, was conducted after dinner on Saturday evening. Those remembered were Donald (Dan) Neher, August 17, 2003 (Just recently notified of Dan’s death), Janice South Barnett, February 12, 2013, Betti Crumpler Kardos, March 12, 2013, Richard Downing, husband of Shirley Race Downing, April 19, 2013, Roger Mabin, August 20, 2013, Grace Taynor, wife of member Alvin Taynor, September 23, 2015, Clinton Brice Gordon, February 10, 2016, Thomas Moorehead, long-time friend of Evelyn Wiles Marshall, May 30, 2016, Harvey Sizemore, husband of Lois Goughnour Sizemore, September 17, 2016, Thelma Underwood Jones, January 16, 2017, and Robert (Bob) Billheimer, August 30, 2017.

Those members of the class traveling from out of state include: Wayne and Carol Crist, Punta Gorda, Florida. They were especially happy to be here rather than in Florida, due to hurricane Irma. We have since been informed that they were lucky and had no damage at their property. Roger and Liz McJilton, Crossville, Tenn., Ken and Mary Ann Stogsdill, Kimberly, Idaho and Bob and Marilyn Suydam, Newport, Michigan. Guest included Christa Trainer, daughter of Gladys Trainer. Barbara Ginther, daughter of Bob and Marilyn Suydam, Phyllis Dailey Rogers, sister to Gladys and Eric Marshall, son of Evelyn Wiles Marshall. The class was especially happy to have both Gladys and her sister Phyllis at the Saturday evening Buffet. They are residents of the Masonic Home.

There were 68 members in the class of 1952, 35 girls and 33 boys. Twenty-six members are now deceased.

In the summer of 1962 twenty-two member of the class, along with spouses and family, held a picnic at Snyder Park in Springfield to celebrate their tenth anniversary. It was at this gathering the class decided they would meet every five years thereafter, and the class has continued to follow this tradition ever since.
