Senior Michael Green and freshman Miranda Guisinger were honored at the April 25th meeting of the New Carlisle Rotary Club as the Student of the Month and Citizen of the Month, respectively.

Michael is the son of Mike and Mary Jo Green. During his high school years, Michael played football for one year, golf for three years, and basketball and tennis all four years. He qualified for the District golf tournament in 2016, his basketball team won the CBC championship junior year, and the tennis team repeated as CBC champions in 2016 and 2017. He was the recipient of the Allstate Good Hands Award in both basketball and golf. Michael has worked as an office worker, served as a student council representative, and has been a member of National Honor Society and AFJROTC. His current class schedule includes Graphic Design, Honors Physics, and Advanced Placement courses in English, calculus, and government. In the fall of 2017, he will attend either The University of Akron or The University of Cincinnati to pursue a degree in engineering.

Miranda is the daughter of Amanda Hillman and Michael Guisinger. After completing just one year in high school, Miranda is already making a positive impact in the community. As vice-president of the Junior Optimist Club, she has been involved in several community service projects including providing Christmas boxes for children living in homeless shelters, delivering blankets to nursing home residents, and collecting plastic bags to construct mats for the homeless. Miranda is a reading buddy of Park Layne Elementary first graders and a volunteer at Brukner Nature Center. She also assists with food distribution at the Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry.

In her speech to the Rotary Club, Miranda shared a quote from author Charles deLint that embodies her approach to life: “I don’t wanna live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for one another. Not just people who are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my part.”
