Tyler Hughes tells Deputy Yates about the incident

Shortly before 4:00 on Monday afternoon, Bethel Twp. Medics and Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a two-car accident on Styer Dr. at McAdams Dr.

According to witnesses, the driver of a turquoise Chevy S-10 ran the stop sign on McAdams and struck a black GMC pickup truck.

The S-10 driver then reportedly backed up and fled the scene.

“I saw the guy back up and leave,” said Tyler Huges, who witnessed the accident. “I saw the lady in the truck and she looked hurt. She pointed to the other truck, so I chased after him.”

Hughes said he was able to get the driver to stop in the vicinity of Lower Valley Pike and Osborn Rd.

“I told him ‘you hit that lady,’ and he said, ‘No, I didn’t.’”

Hughes said that the driver told him that he didn’t remember the accident and didn’t remember leaving. He also said the driver told him that he had just been released from prison.

The driver of the GMC was taken by family members to SOIN Medical Center for evaluation. Her granddaughter, who was her passenger, was uninjured.

The S-10 driver was expected to be charged with failure to yield. Further charges may be forthcoming after an investigation by the Ohio State Patrol.
